15th Vostroyan Firstborn
Founded in the lead up to the ‘Fall of Cadia’, the 15th Regiment is a new hybrid arms group intended for offence tactics in the wake of the Chaos Incursion; mass suppression of rebellious and heretical actions the name of the game. To that end the Regiment is formed of a blend of Vostroyan Nobles, who form the better equipped ‘Veteran’ squadrons, and massed groups of foot slogging infantry, drawn in from the hive worlds and provided with basic equipment and less ornate uniforms. Lead by various members of the ‘Technocratic Classes’ of the planet from which it takes its name, the Regiment thus can call on considerable mechanised support, in the form of Chimera and Hellhound light vehicles, alongside heavy vehicles such as Leman Russ Tanks and Artillery (for which the Regiment is known to have a considerable liking for).
Since its founding, the 15th has been engaged in numerous conflicts in the wake of the ‘Fall of Cadia’, almost exclusively engaging in conflicts on various Winter and Urban worlds; such is the natural environment of the Regiment. Indeed, since its formulation, its Regimental Colonel, Nikolai Ornovski, has practically forced his men to march through the devastating winters of their homeworld, by way of ‘Training them for the wars to come’. Such is the measures to which the Colonel will go, that they have in past been forced to physically drag Tanks through the snow to keep to their marching schedule.
To this end the regiment has made noted steps toward perfecting its marching abilities in such conditions, even going so far as to have a dedicated platoon for the training of ‘Rough Riders’, often known now to employ entire detachments of the horse mounted lancers against enemy troops. Hit and run tactics are commonplace here, and have seen the Rough Riders of the Regiment hold a noted reputation for their effectiveness against the more brutish armies of the Galaxy, indeed, many a conflict has been resolved to the sound of the thundering hooves of their advance out of the snow. Despite their successes, however, the Rough Rider elements of the Regiment are held in disdain by the common soldiery, thanks in no small part to the fact that only those of noble birth are permitted to ride - not by law, but rather by the requirement that they must pay for their own steed (something the common men are unable to do).
Since developing its tactical approach and seeing considerable success in the field, the regiment has since seen its companies rolled out across vast swathes of Imperial and Hostile space, using a blend of tactics which normally see members of the infantry advancing ahead of tanks, with heavy infantry using those same tanks as cover; under a heavy screen of artillery fire. Despite this, the Regiment has developed a significant reputation for ‘Glory Hunting’ - its officers and mounted cavalry often sacrificing men in the ‘meat grinder’ to further enhance their own reputations.
Colonel Nikolai Ornovski
The incumbent Commander of the Regiment, Ornovski has headed up the group since its founding, raking up a considerable amount of medals and accolades for his troubles; most notably in the wake of the fall of Cadia. He is famed for personally leading the charge (from inside the relative safety of his tank) in one of the final battles of the now fallen worlds, and as a result of these links, it is not uncommon for Cadian Regiments to willingly request their attachment to his Regiment.
A staunch traditionalist, Ornovski relies on the Officer Rider Corp and Rough Rides to provide his personal guard and is never seen without a squad of the mounted support group accompanying him across the field and front lines of many and all war zones. Personally, he prefers to remain distant from combat (as being dead tends to hinder one's command ability), however should the occasion call for it, he makes use of a power fist and las pistol when called upon to defend himself.
