To celebrate the tin men coming out next after the Death Guard, here's a 1.5k hypothetical list.
Battalion Detachment
HQ
Techpriest Dominus w/ Eradication ray and macrostubber
Techpriest Dominus w/ Volkite Blaster and macrostubber
Elites
Cybernetica Datasmith
x5 Sicarian Infiltrators with Taser Goad and Flechette Blaster
Troops
x5 Skitarii Rangers w/ 2 Transauric Arquebii, Omnispex
x5 Skitarii Rangers w/ 2 Transauric Arquebii, Omnispex
x5 Skitarii Vanguard w/ Arc Maul, x2 Plasma Calivers
x5 Skitarii Vanguard w/ Arc Maul, x2 Plasma Calivers
x5 Skitarii Vanguard w/ Arc Maul, x2 Plasma Calivers
x5 Skitarii Vanguard w/ Arc Maul, x2 Plasma Calivers
Heavy Support
x2 Kastelan Robots w/x4 Heavy Phosphor Blasters
Onanger Dunecrawler w/ Data Tether, Icarus array, heavy stubber
Onanger Dunecrawler w/ Data tether, Neutron Laser
---------------------------------------
Can you tell this list is designed to fight things wearing power armor? One of the interesting... challenges with the Mechanicus is that there are some major holes in their roster. No flyers, no transports, only one non-named HQ and very limited (and somewhat mediocre) fast attack. I doubt the new codex will do much to address them unless they're borrowed from other armies
Tactics & Use: There are a silly amount of bullets in this list. The Kastellan bots can throw out large quantities and are extremely tough, and the Vanguard pack a pair of what are basically plasma guns for relatively cheap. The rangers are excellent snipers for picking off support characters like commissars. The dunecrawlers are there just for another big scary thing to shoot, and to provide AT and AA. The stalkers are there for crowd control, with an eye toward ramming them into the semi-inevitable horde of conscripts/boyz/
Weaknesses: The anti-tank in this list comes from the neutron laser on the Onanger. Aside from that, it's "rely on bullet spam". Realistically, the Icarus onanger could probsbly be swapped to a neutron laster, but the Icarus array is so good and is decent against ground targets, too. This is where the HQ issue really comes up, because one of those techpriests costs as much as an onanger. The fact that the infantry has to walk everywhere is pretty painful, but that's somewhat mitigated by being able to advance and shoot.
