Heyo everyone.
So, I've decided to finally bite the bullet, and invest in a decent quality folding table for my wargames. Turns out, a six foot by four foot folding table is a bloody rare thing, for reasons unknown. So, here I am, coming to the community for recommendations; see what my options are.

cheap option 1 - cut everyone's legs off and tables are no longer neccasary
cheap option 2 - check by a building site as 6x4 is the standard supply and can be regularly spotted in skips, often it'll have a bit of plaster/landscape stuck to it. (doesn't help much with the folding part, or the legs, and without transport it'll be a pain, especially if its windy).
cheap option 3 - 2 x 3x6 plywood + some beams and build the thing yourself
cheap option 4 - dig a trench around the area you wish the table to be, stand in trench - no need for table!

Not really a table but this is how I made a few boards for my local club/group:
1) Go to a large-ish DIY/hardware store and buy a 6x4 piece of MDF (because plywood tends to splinter) 8-10mm usually works. Thinner tends to sag through, thicker is unneccesarily heavy.
2) Most of the larger stores have a sawing service in the lumber department where they can cut the board in 3 2x4 pieces for free (or a small fee).
3) ask around if someone has some leftover latex paint, or pick up some white (cheaper) latex paint yourself. Throw in a hand of modeling sand a bit of craft paint in the color you want. Use the mix to paint/texture one side of the boards. Drybrush/airbrush/spraypaint some lighter colours for variation.
Then you can simply place the boards on a table when you want to play. You could even get more fancy with it and add hills/water/etc. to the boards; the 3 pieces allow for a fair bit of variation.

Yeah, considered these options. A folding 3' by 4' board is fairly cheap, I suppose.
