Invest in some Pigment Fixer, I use MIG and it works great Thanks for the tip, I've used isopropanol to 'fix' the powder in place and than varnished over it. Is the MIG fixer very different? i.e. can I use it instead of varnish? Or is varnishing fixed pigments unnecessary? I've read a few guides but there seems to be a lot of contradicting information out there, but that might be due to people using it for different purposes (gaming, display, modelrailroad, etc.). So any and all tips are welcome.

Pigment Fixer will set it as hard as concrete, you wont need to varnish it.
I always varnish my models Satin followed by Matte at the end anyway. Then flock/grass tufts

Really nice bases Nutty, I like the barrels and the sandbags, weathered realy well.
I suffer with Pigment fixer as I find the powders turn a lot darker, Which is really annoying.
I've tried Both ways of Fixer down first and then pigments and Pigments first then Fixer, Hate it!.
