I think I might try and paint the BFG ships I own. Some have been sitting around with bad paint jobs since 2000-2001, others were picked up before GW dropped them off their website a couple of years back, a few came via the warp (ebay). But all of them need some work and it is well past time.
I'll post some pictures here as things progress and I encourage other members to post their BFG stuff, whether physical models, or from the games; fluff bits you've written, or lore that you like.
(Ok, gonna go take some photos and then scurry back and post them)
Everyone likes the glory boys and because 1000 marines is just about enough to do snot when you have a couple of them driving your Rhinos, lets also add a small number of jobs for them on ships. I think you'll normally find 7-13 marines as crew on a Space Marine ship of the line, any other brothers will be being transported to some location of arse kicking, or another; the majority of the crew are of course chapter serfs, who should probably be driving the APCs too.
Looks like we've got 2 Battle barges, 7 strike cruisers, 9 Nova escorts, 3 Gladius escorts, and 3 of the Torpedo escorts. I think that is around an average Chapter's worth of ships, they tend to have 1-3 barges and few cruisers and a bunch of escorts who have the job of protecting those assets.
My spreadsheet claims this is about 2715 points of ships, that's without requisitioning the Imperial Navy's escorts or commander upgrades.
Ah the Chaos fleet. Sadly I'm responsible for the horribly painted ships on the left. We're looking at a Grand Cruiser, 3 heavy cruisers, 7 Cruisers, 3 Iconoclast (lance) escorts and 9 Infidel (torpedo escorts). I did order a battleship for them tonight but we'll see if it is as complete as was claimed. 2715 points without upgrades.
Imperial Navy. Featuring two battleships, one of which I apparently assembled with greenstuff back when I was a teenager and buying superglue (paints, brushes) cut into the buying models budget and so was often ignored. One heavy cruiser, the beloved Mars. 5 Cruisers, 1 Dauntless (I should get a few more of those), 7 Sword Frigates and 8 Cobra Destroyers. 2305 points. I really like the Emperor class battleship but I keep thinking that if I can't fix it, then it would make a pretty sweet Spacehulk.
The Orks. Only 3 cruisers (2 kill cruisers, and 1 terror carrier), but a scary 22 Brute Ram ships, and 6 Savage gunship escorts. They clock in at only 1285 points however Orks can more easily benefit from scratch builds, as well as Roks and Spacehulks. They are also supposed to be an escort dominated fleet. I'm going to paint these in a quick and simple scrap colour scheme with diferent clan accents. Cruiser Kaptains may be named for 40k Ork warbosses I have seen on the table.
The Eldar, another escort centric fleet. We're looking at 4 Eclipse carrier cruisers, and 1 Shadow cruiser. Backed by 4 Hellebore Frigates, 6 Aconite Frigates,6 Nightshade Destroyers, and 11 Hemlock (pulsars with engines) destroyers. 2580 points. I saw a really great Eldar fleet on Dakka and I might steal the colour schemes from that, it was a great scheme and they were painted really well.
Finally we have a Blackstone Fortress, again built with greenstuff… and an attempt at scratch building a Chaos battlebarge, which isn't a terrible start but I didn't know or have the parts to finish it. I suspect it could do great things for Nurgle if I slap it back together. Or maybe it should go in the hulk.
