So, after my local gaming group rejected my idea for using Necromunda Goliaths to represent Catachan guardsmen (they were better-proportioned to their Escher counterparts, who were also guardswomen), I've embarked on a new project, using the Genestealer Cults (yeah, I know. Boo, hiss, etc.) codex to represent the personal army of a Rogue Trader (specifically, using the Cult Ambush rules to represent reinforcements teleporting down from the ship). As soon as I am able, I intend to buy a Severina Raine model to represent the Rogue Trader herself, Privateer Generalis Navarchus Domina Septima Caspian.
Caspian's Corsairs are a mercenary force in service to the Caspian Rogue Trader house since the House Caspian Warrant of Trade was chartered by Primarch Robute Gulliman himself in the latter years of the Great Crusade, which are based out of the Caspians' ancestral starship, the Ambition-class cruiser Stella Quaesitor (Star Treader in Low Gothic). The Corsairs number approximately 5,000 voidsmen and about a thousand supporting combat personnel, and they bring to bear a wide variety of ground attack vehicles and aircraft. Their preferred method of assault is to land a small detachment, supplemented by reinforcements teleporting to the field from Stella Quaesitor once battle has been joined, although they are well-trained and equipped for fighting aboard spacecraft. Prominent victories by the Corsairs include taking as a prize the Carnage-class cruiser Fate's Temptress on the periphery of the Battle of Calth; storming the heretical Bishopric of a cult loyal to the Night Lords on Macragge during Kurze's abortive attempt to destroy the capital of the Imperium Secundus; stopping Waaagh! Gitkrusha in its tracks by teleporting onto the bridge of Gitkrusha's Killa Kroozer Evvryfing Smasha and pressing "Da Mega Red Button," which caused the entire Ork fleet to fly at full power directly into the heart of Telescopium Maxima, a blue supergiant star; intercepting and destroying a Fraternis Templar convoy enroute to Boras Minor, repelled a Dark Eldar raid on Corvis Major, ran a Tau Protector Fleet blockade to rescue the survivors of a Black Templar company that had been overrun on Flannagan's Folly, and purged a Slannesh pleasure cult run by the governor of Credere Sensibus by turning against him after they learned that the insurrection against his rule (which they had been defending him from) was in protest of his hedonistic iconoclasm.
The Corsairs often replenish their understrength forces by recruiting decimated Imperial Guard units, a tradition that goes back to Rogue Trader Tertia Caspian v. Primarch Sanguinius, the Imperium Secundus court case which firmly established House Caspian's right to replace crew losses from whatever sources the captain deems prudent and available. Such assimilated units include Ghost's Recon Sentinel lance, Vyrum's Vanguard special weapons company, and 'Evynne's 'Ellions (all-female) assault company.
The Captaincy of Stella Quaesitor has always been matrilineal - command passed down from mother to daughter, or to a sister if the captain had no daughters. In fact, the only time a male captained the ship was when Robute Gulliman needed a vessel from which he could launch his attack on Alpharius' base on Eskrador. For this occasion, a larger Captain's throne was installed on Stella Quaesitor's bridge, with the original throne set at its right side. The Primarch's Throne, as it came to be known, has never been sat upon in any other time or place by anyone since, and it still waits for the time when the Lord Commander deigns to command the ship again. The 117th Navarchus Domina is Septima Caspian, a woman of strength and wisdom.
