What is it exactly on Mars the Necron were looking for?
Necron scout ships once passed by the fleets and defenses protecting the Solar System unnoticed, reaching as far as the orbit of Mars before being gunned down. Even then, the wreck of the last vessel managed to land on the surface. What were they doing to far into our space? Who knows for sure?
Some say they managed to get so far because one of the four remaining C'tan, the Void Dragon, is entombed deep beneath the Martian surface and is worshipped by the Adeptus Mechanicus as the Omnissiah or Machine God.

Looking at what those ships accomplished, faced with all the might of the guardians of Holy Terra, it might make you wonder.
How is it that they survived so long?
In support of the Void Dragon's presence theory, it is known that it controls and consumes victims slowly, through the use of technological and that it might be able to remotely control technology over vast distances. Perhaps it was trying to get out?

How did it get there in the first place? Speculations leads us to the Blackstone Fortresses, also known as the Talismans of Vaul. In the early wars against the Necrons and the C'Tan, their Smith-God Vaul created Wraithguards and Wraithlords, then called Iron Knights and Wraith-Giants. To counter the threat of the lightning fields, Vaul made them, the Wraithsoldiers. In the pause that gave the Eldar, Vaul created the Blackstone Fortresses. Incredible weapons, it's not beyond belief that these were used to imprison this C'tan deity in Mars. Why Mars? Perhaps it was the closest to the battle.

Why is it waking up? "The Vaul-moon shall bring forth the Dragon" is an inscription found on an Eldar artifact. This could mean one of two things: The Vaul-moon is a Blackstone Fortress. The Void Dragon might just wake up the next time Abaddon comes back. Why? It will probably respond to the only thing that can banish or destroy it. Why Abaddon the Despoiler? He still has possession of two of these fortresses in the Eye of Terror.
The second option is the Vaul-moon being a forge world. Vaul was the Eldar Smith-God, so it is likely that they'd call something that produces weaponry a Vaul-moon.

In conclusion, why is this record named as it is?
Imagine the implications of the Void Dragon on Mars. So close to Holy Terra, with millions of servants it can control, it might turn very nasty indeed. Let's hope I am wrong.

If this was to happen explain how it could be stopped? The idea of a necron ship being gunned down over mars was true,but we have covered it up for so long why do you bring such disconcerting topics up?

If what you say is true,the first option,then we must stop Abaddon at the Eye of Terror,must we not? If the second is correct we must purge that sector of mars,or further risk Eldar raiders,or worse.

In my opinion we should recheck all necron and eldar data and make sure we arent coming to any rash conclusions. May the Emperor help us if your right.

Report:

On travelling to Textra 31st our fleet encounted heavy Necron fleet resistance, only to be futher complicated by the arrival of a Elder Fleet.

The necrons quickly fleed in the face of Supreme firepower, upon which the Elder turned upon our fleet.

I belive the necrons have finally encounted a race upon which they are not able to excecute swift raids due to this race being swifter than them.

But the imperium is still mighter.

Upon landing on Textra, we found that a small war had broken out between "The Metal Men", "The Elfs" and The PDF

Upon examining the corpse of one of "The Elf Men" We found it to be a Elder Warrior
And then upon seeing a Vid-Recording of a "Metal Man" we found them to be Necrons.

I belive these 2 in-egmatic races have now joined in an all out war againts each other. each vying to gain control of Mars and the void dragon which is rumoured to sleep below it.

One of my patrol fleets [Tartarus] has come in contact with a small necron splinter fleet,which was on a course straight toward the Terran Sector. I believe more may come. My ships were on their way to the Orlien Sector and encountered this fleet. We destroyed them quickly and have sent reports to Terra.

With preparations for Abbadon's next move already underway, I must say it is quite disconcerting to have sneaky Eldar and "un-killable" Necrons in the middle of the Holy Solar system. I see no way to stop this next wave of attacks by the Necrons, but we can stop Eldar raids. It is quite remarkable that Segmentum Solar picked up on none of this, granting that they have the most resources of any Imperial Fleet.

The Praxis system was under heavy assault by several xenos forces. The loyal Amazonian LXIX who recently have made a reappearance after their homeworld being lost in the imperial red-tape have proved to not only be loyal to the emperor, but also have shown that there is hope against the xenos forces known as the Necron. I have personally witnessed these women fighting against insurmountable odds and in the name of the emperor they have been victorious.

During several battles in the praxis system the Amazonian LXIX were key to the recapture of several planets never allowing the xenos forces to gain so much as a foothold. High Commander Arica and her non-traditional force of women have shown that the emperor's might is stronger than that of the metal men. During several battles the C'Tan Deathbringer arrived thinking that the xenos forces would be victorious. Had not been for the Amazonian Ogryn this false god could have wiped out an entire regiment. The sacrifice of those lost as they distracted his attention from the main lines gave opportunity to the ladies of the fighting LXIX to force the Necron to phase out time and time again. We believe that these multiple combats are from the same source.

While holding a vital teleport system not only did the Deathbringer return, but also the Deceiver spearheaded a second wave of Necron. Several times during the course of the battle these metal men attempted to gain control of the spirit of the vehicles. While we are under the assumption that the front line units vehicles do not have a machine spirit it is assumed that there is at least a splinter of a spirit there placed by the Adeptus Mechanicus. It is this splinter spirit that the necron were attempting to manipulate to gain control of the vehicles. Luckily, these crews were successful in holding such forces at bay.

With Praxis secured the Amazonian LXIX will stand by for further word of the growing threat to terra and Mars. Ready to launch and come to the aid of the Adeptus Mechanicus with their full armies if and when the order to report comes about.

Advise from the commander of the LXIX is to ignore the monolithic monstrosities and concentrate on the metal men themselves. It would appear that they will retreat when the odds are overwhelmingly against their own numbers.

Commanders of the Imperial Guard. We have disturbing news from around the Maelstorm. Recently a new force of renegade marines appeared and started with assaults on lightly guarded planets and convois.
This force is operating from a fleet built around a Space Hulk. These renegades call themselves "Warp Shadows" and are supported by normal humans. Currently there identity still unknown, but its suspected that this is the lost Space Marine chapter of the "Emperor's Talons". The newly created Talons dissapeared along with an explorator fleet.
Despite who they are this force has been classified as extremely dangerous since we don't know their full strength yet.

Commanders of the Imperial Guard. Would knowing the full strength of the renegades known as the warp shadow make them any less dangerous? Far be it for a Commissar to question the classifications of an Inquisitor, but it seems to me that knowing the full strength of an entire Marine chapter that has been lost in the warp is not going to make it any less or more dangerous.

Should this truly be the lost chapter of the "Emperor's Talons" I would advise extreme caution and discretion. It is far easier to debrief a loyal guardsman than it is to question a marine tainted by the warp. Have we not learned that lesson already with the Horus Heresy?

My dear commissar Yarrika right now its unknown if its even the complete chapter. We don't know how many of the Emperor's Talons have survived since the year 761.M38. Its unfortunate that they have been lost back then but right now we have more urgent problems around Badab and the Maelstorm.

Don't mistake the Talons of the Emperor with the lost chapter of the Emperor's Talons. The Talons of the Emperor are a loyal Space Marine chapter while the Emperor's Talons are lost for nearly 3 millenia already.
Until now we have only two (2) confirmed attacks of the Warp Shadows. One on a small outpost, while the second was an attack on a smaller civil convoi.
Our estimations about their strength are:
1 Space Hulk (unknown if its only drifting in space or can be controlled)
1 Battleship
3 Light cruisers
about 300 renegades, only few with Tactical Cybot Armour
about 1000 human pirates
