With the world being what it is at the moment I have found myself stuck inside more. As such I set myself a challenge - to see if I could make a standard guardsman for a custom regiment out of the contents of my bits box. I would then write a short bit of fluff to go with it. It would be nice to see anyone else is able to come up with anything. Anyway here is my first attempt: Unknown guardsman from the 3rd Duin-Mer Infantry Regiment. They are known for their tough demeanor and talent for close quater fighting within tunnels, caves, and buildings. They are primarily drafted from the criminal underclass and the mining guilds of their home planet. Due to this expertise a number of their regiments are often given enginnering and tunneling duties.
This regiment is currently deployed on the planet Arraxtus Prime in a holding action against the hordes of the Blessed Touch mutant cult. Their other primary objective is to find any surviving tech-priests planetsides. Only with thier permission can they dismantle the ancient loader ships in port before they are commandeered by the enemy. If they fail the Blessed Touch will be able to take their highly contagious mutagen off world to infect other Imperial Planets.

Cool idea; I'll have a look in my bitzbox over the weekend. Your guy looks great, and the backstory makes for a nice read.

Thanks nutty. I liked him so much I've decided to make a squad of them. Looking forward to your creation!

Wow meddiocrehobbyist89! You really do love the Great War aesthetics! A full squad of these guys will look great.
The idea of building something out of the bitz box is a good’un! I will join in and see what I have lying about. I’ve been toying with the idea of making a Tyranid Prime. Hopefully I have what I need to make one! Can’t promise a back story though, Nids don’t really have that sort of character!
Will give me something to focus on whilst on lockdown!!

I do yes. I'm a bit of a history fan, and the Great War is my specialist subject. That and I fell in love with the Vraks series. Maybe I should do something like eldar in the future to challenge myself? I know that even if I did a tau force some mud and trench warfare stuff would creep in.
Go for it! I wish I had some tyranid bits. They're great for random gribbly space monsters. The ones I've nabbed before I've used for mutants. I could write some fluff for you if you like? One of the things I enjoy/sometimes get paid to do.

Cool! I’d appreciate that. My imagination doesn’t stretch to writing stories. My favourite part of the hobby is painting.
I’ll give you what I have as far as fluff goes:
My Hive fleet is a splinter fleet of Kraken (so active on the Eastern Fringe) It’s called Hive Fleet Ariagnee.
That’s pretty much it! Looking forward to reading what you come up with!
I’ve scoured my bitz box and I think I have what I need for the Tyranid Prime.

Cheers! I'll await picutres of the beasty to appear before writing anything. Though of course I will use the info you've given me.
I am in the process of getting a mutant painted up and then plonked on here as part of the challenge.

Great! Mutant sounds cool.
I've built my Tyranid Prime! Just have to paint it now...

Another entry! I'm having quite a bit of fun making mutants out of my bits box. Reminds me of the Eye of Terror Campaign. Anyway here it is... Unknown mutant from Arraxtus Prime and member of the Blessed Touch cult. Most obvious signs of mutation being its disproportionately sized armed and bulbous mishapen head. It's outfit seems to suggest it was formerly a member of the sump scavenger and sanitation teams. It is unknown whether this individual is actually a true mmeber of the cult or simply one of the many Arraxtians driven mad and mutated by the epidemic - the lack of clear heretical iconography is a distinctive clue.
Currently these mutants are overwhelming Imperial forces upon the planet's surface through sheer weight of numbers and brutality. They attack with suicidal ferocity, driven onwards by both their fanatacism and insanity. Reinforcements have been requested, though none have yet been confirmed. The mutations started not long after the appearance of the Great Rift, and the the disease itself is highly contagious. Studies suggest that even the slightest touch can vastly mutate an individual driving them mad in the process. They are currently trying to take control over a number of ancient transport vessels docked around the planet's major spaceport by force. Only a strong will and unflinching faith in the Emperor will stop them.

Hurray! It's a wonderful looking monster. Quick question, what kind of tyranid army do you have? Swarm, big monsters, fliers, etc?

Thanks Mediocrehobbyist89!
Currently it’s a bit of a mixed bag. I have 3 monsters and 3 broods of troops. Not that helpful I know but that’s where I am atm! If you’d like to see more I have a thread ongoing on the picture post section, it’s under “Of Tooth and Claw” Thanks again.

Right judcotrell here's a little bit of fluff for you and your beasty.
"An example of a leader beast from Hive Fleet Ariagnee spotted during the consumption of the Ork kingdoms on Keitel Prime. This is a relatively unique genus as according to Xenologists its possession of two weapons commonly referred to as "boneswords" marks it out as a higher level creature within the Tyranid swarm heirachy. It is likely that a number of these "Tyranid Primes" have been spawned to support the Tyrants in their duties. The boneswords were probably developed to tackle the larger leader Ork leader beasts up close. It is advised upon contact that similar creatures should be given targetting priority to disrupt their swarm's synaptic abilities.
Hive Fleet Ariagnee has been recorded as a Kraken splinter fleet, though it's actual genesis is relatively unknown. It was intially spotted by Imperial observers consuming the planet Ariagnee - an overgrown death world with no mineral resources and ferocious wildlife. At that point it was a relatively weak spliter fleet and as such it was given a low priority threat level. However under continued observation it grew stronger feasting on other small deathworlds, along with a number of pirate holds, a planet controlled by a chaos death cult, and finally the aformentioned Ork world of Keitel Prime. As such this fleet has removed most of our local threats. However it must be noted that with each planet it conquers it grows stronger. It is only a matter of time before it turns it's attention to Imperial territory. As such a general order has been placed to build up our forces in the area. They will surely descend upn us, we must be ready. With the Great Rift now open it seems we are very much on our own too. May the Emperor protect!"

So it took me a minute, but I bashed together a guardsmen from some bits I had laying around: and than I made 3 more, because painting a single guardsmen just felt wrong and now I'm tempted to do a company... but I'll try and put that out of my head for now. I figured I'd go black/green and swampy to change it up from my regular dudes, and tie in with the units in this thread

They are a cool couple of guardsmen. Like the swampy dingy feel to them. Can imagine them being delayed to some grimy hell hole. Trying to work out the bits used. Are those anvil industry rifles?
Also you got a name for these guys?

|
|
Post by nutty on Mar 28, 2020 15:21:50 GMT -5
Thanks! The rifles are attached to the torso; they are spellcrow "shock troop" bits. But they sell rifles/pistols as well. Basicly knock off storm troopers (the old metal ones). I got the 4 torsos with an order for my eldar a while back, but I'm thinking about ordering some for real; use the torsos to make more of these, and the legs for the kasrkin I have planned.
I had some fluff worked out for a swampy world called "Genlig" but I'm not sure what to call them.

Mediocrehobbyist89, thank you so much! That’s exactly what I was hoping for! You got in all the key details and foes to face too. Great job.
Nutty, those “swampy” guard look great! The bases are simply perfect. How did you do the boggy (wet) element?

|
Post by nutty on Mar 29, 2020 3:24:52 GMT -5
Thanks Jud; the wet stuff is 2-3 layers of watered down pva with a bit of moot green mixed in, washed with Athonian(?) Camoshade, and then some hardcoat over top. I also spread a bit of hardcoat over the 'dirt' to make the banks look wet.

judcottrel you are most welcome. Always happy to help.
Had a look at spellcrow and there's some nice stuff on there. I particularly like the large plague flies. Might just get them for my poxwalker and friends death guard army and make up some rules for them.

Ulyssean 2020th Alchem Jackers, the Hellraisers. Ulysses is a Hive world in the Ultima segmentum. Although there are dangerous warp storms in the region, emanating from the Maelstrom, the governing hierarchy are bound by ties to the Imperium and the Adeptus Mechanicus to supply regiments of Imperial Guard and mined resources to the wider Imperium. Discipline is maintained through the Commissariat, and there are lots of Commissars to keep the assigned Prmiaris Psykers and Sanctioned Wyrdvane psykers in line, but they are usually too busy with paperwork and aren't usually found in frontline patrols or deployments. Good work everyone. The Spellcrow stromtrooper bits look really similar to those old metal ones. Well done nutty.

Brilliant work cheminhaler. I've seen your guard before. Nice and unsettling!
Good work everyone. So far we have 3 guardsmen, 1 tyranid beasty, and a mutant. My bitzbox is leaning more towards mutanties each day, though I do have another guardsman waiting to be painted up.

After seeing all the winsom, Imperial Guard, build-a-bears, I wanted to get in on this too. It took a little while to find some legs but I scavenged some up. mediocrehobbyist89 feel free to freestyle a background for this guy. Then I'll paint him. I also dug up a few of the awesome characterful custom guard that cheminhaler has given me over the years (wow, really should get them painted too) They are neat and thus should be shared. I've also got some Wyrdvane psykers on the go and maybe a couple of other models so I might have another post soonish.

"winsom, Imperial Guard, build-a-bear" did make me chuckle.
That is a wonderfully eccentric mod you converted up there emptyhat. Let's see what I can write up. He looks rather dashing! Just a quick question, I'm guessing that's an officer and not a standard chap with the old "warrior weapons" doctrine?
