So with 9th hitting shelves at the end of the month, whose excited?
Personally I can’t wait!
I’m going in the Indominus box with my brothers (I’m the painter out of the 3 of us so should keep me busy!)
My Tyranids list will probably need reworking as it seems elite forces are the way forward.
What are you guys looking forward to most?

I'm liking the clarification in the ruling, and that scenery seems to make a bit more sense now.
Some of the things look like they'll need to be played before I can make judgement, though my army lists aren't really going to change as I have a few favourite compositions that I like to fit into all and any scenarios, sometimes its a square peg round hole scenario and these are the most challenging and fun games!
That said, the Baal predator with flamestorm cannon may be close on the heels of the chainsword intercessors (kinda miffed they dropped the release literally a day after i bought 10 more intercessors - though the chainsaw ones don't seem to have access to other melee wargear yet so maybe I'll stick with auto-bolt rifles and thunderhammers...)
My guard and orks haven't met during 8th so it'll be interesting to have a go with them at some point, the last few years have been Nids and BA. (lots of choppy choppy death munch).

I'm curious as to what the rules will be and how they'll fit the current codices into the new edition. But mainly I'm just looking forward to playing some games after months of sitting at home.

Really disappointed, couldn’t get the Indomitus box, sold out before I could get one.
Can’t believe they produced so few.
Got the rule book and chapter approved though so I’m looking forward to getting some play testing done soon.

Oh I hope so!!!
Those gits meant there were a lot of disappointed hobbyists on day one.
Hopefully GW have learnt a lesson on how to handle a big release like this.

Well there’s an happy ending to this story! GW are now rereleasing Indomitus as a made to order!! So if anyone wants one now’s the time. It's not a happy ending if you're a local game store, the box set will only be available through GW. Basically GW created an artificial demand by producing the starter set in limited quantities (for the first time I can ever remember), DRASTICALLY cut back on the number allotted to stores right before the release so more than a few couldn't meet their pre-orders, then announced that they'll be selling more only through their website (where they can pocket every dollar of the sale). All in the name of fighting scalpers, a problem only created by GW's dumb decision to make the box a limited release*. This whole thing is a mess, and has reinforced my desire to not give GW any of my money for the near future. *I suspect the "limited release" is because their factory shut down for COVID and they couldn't have the kits on hand that they needed, but didn't want to delay the release of the new edition any more than they absolutely had to.

With all the changes that 9th has brought, the sub-par Nid list that myself and my lad built has come through unscathed!
I'll be looking in more details at BA list which are equally built around my personal tastes rather than min/max meta strength hopefully will mean it'll come through still behaving in the same way.
I need to look at the small smattering of Orks I have with me, My curret de-contaminated guard consist of 3 missile launcher teams and that's all, so they're currently inactive!
anyone else had time to digest the changes?

Haven’t had the books yet, I’m still starting out with Nids, though I’ve been waiting to play for the new rules and pts etc.
Sounds like you take the same approach as me to army building! (Get the cool stuff and hope it works!)
How many pts do you have?

We've slowly aqquired about 80 - 90 power level, since my lad and his mate are 10 this seems easier then going into specific points.
The largest game we've played is around 80 though due to the size of table and age of participant this didn't work that well.
I've a feeling these will continue to grow to be around 120 PL at which point I'm going to start running out of storage - at which point we'll hopefully start adding extra details to exisiting models rather than getting more!
There's a reasonable sized ork force though its not yet been fielded in an official game, it is a veteran of much pew pew pew style games where my boy just plays with the models in a more 'fluid' approach, something of which I am slightly envious!
I'll try and get round to posting army lists of each.

Sounds great!
I’m trying to get my boy into the hobby (he’s 8) though he’s not interested in the painting and modelling side of things.
How did keep your son’s engagement?

I thought about ways to make things as quick and productive as possible, the paint scheme for the Nids is a white basecoat, a purple wash and then I pick out the black armour plates, the BA are painted red, a black wash and then guns painted black by me.
We watched a number of video's about 40k (especially the Dawn Of War 1 vid) on you-tube and I let him play with a selection of my figures (mainly bigger tougher figures like orks and marines) without rules etc. I think over time the art and computer games shifted him toward wanting to actually play.
First computer game we played with 40k elelments was regicide when he was about 7/8ish, using the chess rules. Over time his attention span has increased and he's less likely to be found on a computer watching minecraft video's now - recently he drew / traced the cover of the speed freaks box off his own initiative.
I think starting with X-wing as the first taster of tabletop worked too - the engagement by the players during the game round is really high due to the way the games designed (no one player has a turn, its worked out on the initative of the spaceships meaning it takes very little time when you aren't actually involved in the game). After that was a little bit of killteam, then small 40k narrative skirmishes, now he's reading codex's and cackling like an evil mastermind. I think it also helps that he's really into ants (like insanely so, I never knew so much about ants) and the Nids follow similar themes.
And I tried really hard to monitor his engagement during games or painting and make sure I'd wrap up when he was shoing signs of fatigue.
hope that helps!

That’s a great help, thanks.
I’m going to try and do a family Blood Bowl league and see how that goes.

I just updated my battlescribe files and it looks like they added in the 9th edition sutff. So if anyone is curious about what happened to their army, that's a quick way to find out. The casual 1000pt Eldar I used last weekend got bumped up from 995 to 1154 points.. so I'll have to look into that sometime soon

Yeah, they’re definitely up along with the new mechanics of army building.
I’ll have to add up what I have thus far!
