Nice work GoD, how long did it take you to paint? Also what about the bases? are you going to do something else to them or just leave them, cos they look kinda, blank. Just wondering, whats their story and what environment are they fighting in?

I really dig your testmini, goddess. kinda has the feel of a tau unit that's hmm...how to explain it...ok (!), in the IG there's the mordian iron guard that are all in dress uniforms with bright blues and reds and fancy yellow cords hanging off their uniforms - this seems kinda like that, but with some sense added in! I'll explain...
the purple is a classic 'royal' color - very prestigious and, well, show-ey. so the models have a dress uniform/royal guard kinda feel from that - it's definately not a camo thing, so it makes these guys feel like they're almost like a unit that's rarely deployed cuz they're more of a royal guard type unit BUT when they fight they have the sense to strap on some camo-colored armor - in this case the firewarrior is deployed for urban combat and has the cold grey armor that blends in well with building ruins and whatnot, but he's still got that royal purple beneath it cuz he's apart of that royal guard type unit.
you might (if you like the thoughts I just threw out) think about including an etheral since he's the HQ choice that'd get a royal guard type army to protect him.
very cool start on the tau (especially for a quick 30min paintjob)!

The colour scheme is quite similar to the Sa'cea sept world.

I dont know that tau would use purple as a royal color. Purple or better Phoenician Purple is only associated with royalty because in ancient times the dye which was make of a sea snail was expensive to obtain and manufacture. The tau would probably consider gold and black and red(chinese emperor) and gold and probably white and light blue(japan.) Gold and black patterned silk could be the cloth and probably white armor with light blue la and red ui+ markings. This would be an interesting color scheme for an Etherial led elite strike force.

very true point about the history of purple dyes but hey, you never know if the tau force was in charge of an etheral that inhabited worlds which co-existed with humans. perhaps they would do something like this as a way of showing the humans that they weren't so different and that the humans could relate to the tau - a form of subtle enhancement to the cooperation effort.
either way, I like it alot goddess, but you might consider just painting all the shadows then coming over with a black ink wash (like 4 parts water to 1 part ink, maybe even 5 parts water) and washing the whole model. this'd give your purples a lowlight as well as making nice smooth shadowed cracks like in the gun and the shadows on the armor. you'd want to go back over it with the grey to re-highlight and it'd give you the opportunity to take a lighter purple and highlight the purple areas but I think it'd look really sweet.

It all makes me wonder how purple came to be the "color of royalty." I mean, somewhere in there, some crazy guy's like "Dude, that color's royal!" Makes no sense to me.

color scheme is cool
maybe you could test the scheme with purple armor and a darker grey or maybe do that for elite units or something.
purple and grey look pretty good. btw are you gonna make those tau infiltrators? i think that would be a cool addition to your army

It's a really cool scheme.... I think it'd be cool to darken the gray and purple a bit...

That looks really cool - And agree on darkening the purple a bit, but not the gray - Light gray and dark purple looks good Anyway, have an army in those colours and you'll stand out amongst those Tau players

one of the reasons purple was reserved for royalty was because it was so rare and difficult to produce and so it was the most expensive, on an alien world similar to earth purple dye may very well be just as hard to make using natural materials, and so there is a good chance it might be equally as rare.
by the way, the mini looks pretty good, the two colors mix well.
