One of our friends and I decided to have a 1 on 1. As we both played tau, I decided to go for "the greater evil" (even if it doesn't add up, a game is a game). We quickly whipped up a 1000pts each and hit the table. On my side of the table there was:
Commander
2 x 10 squads firewarriors in devilfish
2 x crisis suits
2 x broadsides
and a hammer head
He had:
Commander
1 x fire warriors
20 kroot IIRC
a broadside with shield drones
a crisis suit
2 x 6 drone units
4 x stealth suits
and a hammer head
We played a omega take and hold, so first turn was easy....i had nothing on the table, as we started with escalation.
Second turn all i got on the table was the 2 broadsides and the crisis suits. There wasn't much to fire at but one of the crisis suits had a crack shot at the kroot that were hiding very quietly in the centre objective. No casualties for me on the second turn.
Third turn started to get a little more exciting as most of his units were deployed and i finally got my fire warriors on the table with their devilfish. I knew i had to concentrate on the kroot and get rid of them as they were holding the objective that i wanted. I deployed all the fire warriors from the devilfish and shot at the kroot with the devilfish and decided to use my fire warriors to shoot at the stealth suits that were fairly close to my units.....I ended up with 4 wounds on 4 stealth suits and he failed all his saves....go fire warriors. I made one unit of drones start to run and the other was close to my crisis suit that was left on the table.
Fourth turn....those kroot were holding on till the end i was only killing 1 or 2 at a time and was trying to get my fire warriors in there but to my dismay his hammer head used a submunition shot at them and got a direct hit leaving only 2 standing. There was also a crisis suit standing behind the main objective that was his backup for when the kroot got slammed but i just kept on dwindling them down ( i think there was about 7 or 8 left now)
Fifth turn left me to finally kill the hammer head with my broadsides and that left the hammerhead to take out another 2 kroot. At this stage my other unit of fire warriors was down to half strength and had little chance of getting into the objective so i could only concentrate on getting him out of it. I managed to get his kroot down to 5 and tried to use my only standing crisis suit to take out his crisis suit but didn't get anywhere with that and the rest of my fire warriors and the drones off my devilfish ( as 1 was immobilised and one couldn't shoot this turn ) to take out the drone unit that was heading for the objective.
The last turn for the game and I couldn't take out the crisis suit but managed to get the drones down and even though the objective was taken by my opponent i had done enough damage to him to have a margin of about 70 points between us and that meant a draw.
I am happy with that....
