Yeah they are...but then again almost anything looks tough compared to guard infantry. My freind plays Necrons, and those little metal bastards just don't stay down! But I've had a few games where I've just swamped him with bodies. He literally could not kill my troops fast enough. Eventually about 40 guardsmen and conscripts made it into rapid fire range, and he surrendered on turn 4. With Necrons, always take a ressurection orb and plaenty of Necron warriors, or you'll get smashed. And remeber, Pariahas are cool but worthless.

And watch out for close combat space marines with power weapons! Like blood claws, death company and such. and watch out for russie shots... i've destroyed 10 necrons in one shoot with that.

sure it takes more cash to build a guard army, but won't it be more fun than steamrolling over everything with an enormous, fully cheesed-out giant like the Nightbringer...

I have to admit to also owning an Necron army (and SM and Eldar and Tyranids and Tau), but, Commissar, you'll be pleased to hear that I haven't used any of them since I started on the Guard and am in fact thinking of selling some off to finance further Guard goodness...
Classic combination of Res Orb, Veil of Darkness and a big Immortal unit acting as a bodyguard for the Lord works wonders... Deepstriking all over the place and blowing everything to pieces is fun. C'tan are for me a waste of points, they don't move fast enough and rarely gain their points back. Psychologically they are great for distracting attention from your wariors - though any experienced player will just ignore him and go for phase out.

must get the nightbringer, must get the nightbringer, will go into beserk killing rage if don't get nightbringer. it might be my ticket to taking down my mates f**king termies (they slaughter me everytime! whether i'm playing necs or imps. a termie librarian and chaplain, 4 termies w dual lightning claws and sgt w thunder hammer.) the amount of attacks they chuck out is scary, re-rolling failed hits and wounds! (litanies of hate and lightning claws) they take out every one of my inf squads in 1 round of combat before they strike back. consolidation smashes them into another squad, not even my command squad can stand before them! need tips (i'll post this in the tactics section.)

he says abbadon can get up to 11 attacks, the nightbringer can have a maximum of 6, the initiative is also a problem the nightbringers only initiative 4, i bet all those combat drug upgrades get him extreme initiative. (remember kids, turning to chaos can be bad for your health). armour save as well, the c'tan have 4+ invun and armour sv, abbadon has 2+ armour and 5+invun.

I find that Res orb, phylactery, and phase shifter work best.

Ive faced necrons with a friend, and if theres one scary thing, gauss wepons....... 4 shots into side of a russ, and they all glance! 4 explosions but one earth shaker round annnnd........... necrons can be a pain, but they have phase out, and with the right wepons, they go "fast"

abbandon? bah! he's a wimp, it took 8 last chancers (tricked out with refract shields and pwr weps) kage, and schaeffer to kill him, and then a choas space marine squad, then another weakened space marine squad, then finnaly a defiler (by then all i had was a psyker and kage [1 w) and schaffer (1 w, because of ID wep... [glow=red,2,300]cheap[/glow]... ) he was tough i will admit, but he'll die eventually it was like a cave man saying: "keep on chewing till it stops kicking" ;D
