I have an mind to raise together an Imperial Guard Reigment of no one set type of regimental model.
My idea consist of taking my Deathkorps Grenadiers and old Stormtroopers to obviously act as stormtroopers, and then using my Catachans to fill in the regular Infantry Platoon, and then cadians to make up my conscript platoon. Then, I was going to use a compilation Catachan, Tallarn, Old metal Cadians, Valhallans, and such to make up my Hardened Veteran Squad, and going to have a lot of mixed and matched heavy weapons attached to my HQ Platoon, such as catachan heavy bolters and mortars, tallarn and steel legion missile launchers, cadian lascannons.
What do you all think of my idea to create a rag tag veteran unit? ( I plan on having conscripts in the "veteran unit" often for fluff and to symobolize the constant influx of new recruits to battered and old regiments.

in the codex before the current one it shows a PDF army list thats made up of cobbled together squads from broken regiments.I had thought about doing one myself becouse i like the idea. A friend of mine that plays the guard has stuff ranging from Mordians to Vostroyans and almost everything inbetween. He just paints them in prettty much the same color scheme and the army looks pretty good.

It sounds like a good idea. Its something I`ve wanted to do because I want to have some Deathkorps in my army thats predominantly Cadian. Your army sounds like a great idea, much better than constantly painting one type of model.

You can use any model reallly, I once saw a Imperial Guard Regiment made entierly from one of the Houses of Necromunda, obviously with a bit of Conversion.

Mines all ragtag. My fluff is that they were all sent for a team building excersise in squads of ten to some random planet called "ADVENTURE LAND!" while they were canoeing and building rafts and generally having fun, they got attacked. Thus all the squads were put into one rag tag army.

Yeah, A RagTag IG Army the fluff could be anything
A Whole bunch of Regiments on one world were attacked, after being whittled down, assassin killed the other commanding officers, leaving one commander, who took control off all the left over forces and made one army from them

In my main army of valhallens i use a few different army types myself.fo the conscripts i use cadians, for the vets i use catachans, for the AF squad i use armageddon steel legion guys...they are all painted differently for their different tasks, hence the different uniforms.Thats the way i look at it in my army.
