Hello. As I have held many turnaments over the past years I have the last year been using a new point system. The idea for it came when the turnaments allways ended up with the guy winning, was the guy with the strongest army list. People started to skip the turnaments, as it was no fun to play since only the strong army lists won. So I made a system, that promotes objectives more than killing. This was really hard for many at start to understand and accept. As this changed the whole concept of playing, many though. The thing is, one can still play with an overpowered army list and win, but your opponent can still have a chance to claim som points by completing objectives. Aslo, this system rewards you for everything you kill. In the normal system you measure the differance between your victory points and your opponents vitory points. There after the one with most victory points gets all the nice turnament points. Thats not how this system works. What you kill, you get points for! So, to conclude, what you accomplish conserning objectives you get points for, no matter how much units you lose. You get points for killing your opponent and cant lose those points. And finaly, the major differance. Objective points are more worth than killing. The ratio is 6 vs 4, giving a total of 10 points to collect during a game. (I have done some pictures in photshop to make it look similar to GWs rule book. Took me some time to get it right, but I think I have done quite well considering my limited skills in photoshop.) More missions will come as I convert them into this format... if people are intrested that is. Yours Truly Vash

Thanks! Cool that you like them. @blackdeath The purpose is that the layout is to look like GWs thats the whole idea. So people will recognize the layout and read it more easley. You ask how I got the layout... well it took my 2 hours to complete the first mission. First the background. I made a search on granite patteren. Found a picture of a floor tile of stone/granite. This picture I converted to grey scale (using photoshop), and then increased the contrast and lighting. Then I adjusted the levels to make it less apearing, making it more light shaded. Now I searched for GW symbols, the Imperial eagle wasnt hard to find. All I had to do was increase the size of it, and and add it to the layout. Cut out the excess parts around the eagle of course. Oh, and there is a big eagle in the background. This one is the very same imperial eagle, but it has undergone some level changes so it wouldnt be as dark and apearing. The adeptus mechanicus symbol was the same thing. Thoug I had to do some minor adjustments to it. The mission banner I by luck found a mission on the web. I pressed "print screen" and opened it up in photoshop. Here I cut out the mission banner, and took away the previous mission tiltle. I repaired the banner where the text once was, then saved it, and added it to my layout. Now I started to write the mission texts and other things. Added boxes around the text sections. Moved them around to make it look like GWs missions. One mission like this take about one hour to complete. Since I have to play around with alot of layers and contructiong "boxes" that are not covering the background. Yours Truly Vash

great ideas on the tournament stuff Vash and the missions are nice and well thought out also.
I run the tournaments at my local game shop and do something like this also.We have alot of young and new players so not everything is WASIWYG or even all painted. So for an incentive i give out 1 tournament point for having a completely painted army.
I also try to come up with good scenarios to play and make objectives instead of just killing the oponent( but thats what it usually comes down to).
the next tourney i'm going to run i'll try using these scenarios, and i will mention you as he author of the scenarios.
by the way, my tourneys are not exactly RT tourneys since we don't do all the same things as they do but we still have alot of fun.My Gf makes cookies, jello shots( both alchaholic and non for the youngsters)rice crispy treats...we usualy send out for either pizza or subs and that price is included in the tourney fee. When we stop for lunch we have a painting competition where every one brings out their best piece from their army and we vote on it.I made a score chart also for people where you score higher if you complete the mission than if you just defeat your oponent. If you want to see the chart i'll put it in but it's really not a big deal.

Thanks mate. Go ahead and use the missions. More will come today, as I will do 4 more I hope (those I have prepered on paper). I too dont use RT standard turnament rules as you can see. I use this point system, and add alot of other things to the chart. I add comp, painting, and sportsmanship, and of course game points to determen the winner.
If you want, go ahead and post how you do on your turnaments. Its allways good to see new ideas.

It is very nice mate! I like the fact that you want to change the "X points game" for something different. You know what, I have an idea about the choosing of armies for 40K. Maybe using the method from epic to choose your units (with troops options and so on) and give away the point based battle...A bit like in IA III and IV, "historical fightings) with troops and their gear but without point value. The thing is how to have balanced forces to have fun games....

Sure!! I would try a thing, You choose your units according to epic standards and cross over with 40K (units and so on). You can base for rough point value on basic squad cost and only "pay" for weapons (special and heavy)and doctrines, then sergeant and gear upgrade would be free... Have you noticed that GW is incorporating gear in squads and vehicules now (DA and Blood Angels codices)?? I thing they are going to make an erratum for other armies in the same way (free frag and krak, photon, plasma... grenades, searhlight, smoke)

Yeah, I have noticed. Started with Eldar acctually. But Dark Angels really got a boost. Bolt pistols for every SM and frag and kraks. And I like that the wargear list is gone. Now they have options directly on their entry.
