Why field them? How do you field them (as in what role they play)? What do you arm them with?
I like all GL or two GL with a demo charge, but this has not gone into practice yet.
What about everyone else. What about sniper rifles? I guess I am trying to see if they are worth it. Hell for that matter can they ride in the chimera with the command squad?

I like special weapon squads. I haven't got any but I might get some in the future. If you ask me thses squads peform best when they have been given a specific job. Melta guns for tank hunting, Jungle fighters and Drop troops would be good fot this because you sound deepstrike and infiltrate behind enemy armour. plasma guns would be good for dealing with very light armour and heavy infantry like SM and Terminators. I think my favourite would be to give the squad as many greade launchers as possible and watch them blast apart huge swathes of light infantry. Heavy weapon squads would probably be a better option though. The heavy wepons have better range, lower AP and a higher strength. The only disadvantage with both these squads is that they will draw a hell of a lot of firepower. These squads tend to be pricey too and so you must be careful where you leave them.

how about just giving them a demo-charge and drop them next to something you want to blow up. a really nice thing especially against spacemarines or necrons

I think if you do that you waste they're ability to take three special wepons. What's a special wepon team withought special wepons?

Demo charges are one shot special weapons that, after they fire, become another ablative wound to the special weapons

I like using three flamers, its a great distraction unit and can cause a fair bit of damage.
