Dont give up , i hate them words "give up" . What you can do is use fine thread or fine plastic string to portray the belts across his waist, u can green stuff the caps on, shouldnt be too much of a hassle.

We all understand the problem with helmets..thats why their Cadian (Evil Smile) Cut off the helmets and use anything that might look like that beanie. Anyway if u need help u can contact me thru msn or sumthin

I'de say assemble the tank, its kinda expensive come to think abt it, maybe when u have a bit more experience modding and converting u can give the LR a shot.

Buy a box of cadians and catachans and mix the bits, you'll have plenty of different types of heads, and won't have to worry about cutting off and filing down helmets. I think you can prob get a good basic HL2 troop using a mix of the bits with minimal usage of GS. If you have a heacy weapon team box then use the spare arms any stuff to give your models more vared poses.
Having said that, GS, isn't that hard to use, just remember, you don't have to keep your first attempts, if you aren't happy with them, start again, 2 or 3 attempts for a hat or what ever isn't a failurer or anything, use it as pratice, you'll improve very quickly.
I think my first foray in to using GS I made a cowboy hat really easily. Then tried to make a power fist, first 1 looked aweful, second attempt was better, but the fingers were too sausage link, so ended up sculpting one out of plastic in the end.
Try out a few things and see what works best for you. You can alway make plastic easier to mold by putting a drop of polystyrene cement on it (just be careful you don't get any think strands coming out of it).
Have fun, I'm looking forward to seeing some of these.

If you have already made them, then I would use them as colbine (or what ever they are called, I started HL2, but got addicted to Counter Strike again, so never finished it lol).
Cheapest option is to buy some green stuff and use that to convert them. Then, next birthday, christmas or Easter (if someone will give u cash instead of chocolate), buy the catachans to make the rebel types peeps.

[you could make the commanders skin like this]  Here is a few differnt types of soldiers that you can become first the law inforcement officer [possible color scheme]  Next is some of our infantry units [also possible color scheme]   And here are some of our finest warriors the Elites [storm trooper mabye]  And here is one of our vehicals. I cant remember the name so lets just call her the stalker [setinal variant mabye]  Just a few quick facts that you should know about us. We are a super fighting force. we use slaves on the battlefield [conscripts] and we are advanced in brainwash. You could use the respirator heads from the vox-caster in ur cadian S.T set, then model the greenstuff from there
