I was just wondering if anybody uses the last chancers??? Either as a separate list or as an add-on to their existing list, as i have never seen or heard of anybody use them before. Some of the things they can do are quite astounding ( 20 pie plates from deep-striking specialists with demos). Just post and say if you do or dont, and if so, how do they hold up in the field?

I once killed about 70-80 of them (only his veterans and command squad were not last chancers, ) but that was pretty good luck and lots of heavy flamers. And 3 hellhounds...

I am surprised that they are not an addition to most guard armies. The amount of special or heavy weapons they can add is enormous! Plus all these special and heavy weapons can deep-strike, infiltrate or be mounted in a chimera. The only reasons I could think of to not use them is maybe the points cost ( ) and also fluff-wise they may not fit into many armies.

If I need that kind of drop troop firepower, I'll drop my entire army. It is capable of annhialating entire armies in a single turn. Its also capable of dying horrendously.

alot of people don't really look at the IG special character section because when it was written all the special characters in all the codecei had the 'requires opponents permission' rule. this meant that basically no one was ever allowed to use uber characters unless it was a friendly game, and since that was the case, most everyone just skipped the section due to their tournament aspirations with the army.
the new line of codcei that have been coming out have been breathing new life into special characters as the 'requires opponents permission' line has been totally removed and special characters have been re-introduced as 'standard issue.'
I anticipate seeing alot more special characters (especially last chancers) in the days to come compared to the days past, personally.

Many people don't use them as well because they think that it takes away the personality of their army. If you write your own background you have something that was created by yourself and if you then put some predefined special characters in your army it loses a lot of character and becomes a bit more cheesy

true, though with the amount of imagination running rampant on this forum, I could see some amazing things done with the last chancers rules used for a template to just make cool IG infantry dudes.

Indeed. You can do really nice things with the Last Chancers. Especially when if comes to kill teams. Even if I use normal squads or veterans nower days...

NO they are not. They are my scuicide squad. I mean if almost every army has one you mine as well have a cool model to lead them. I take the Codex's advice and put the models that failed a leadership test or the squad that was my last hope to stop a Carnifex. Seriously I fell as though it reloves stress.

I do have a dusty set of Colonel Schaffer's Last Chancers somewhere, but I rarely use them. They just seem to make up their own background and their character seems a little 'mass produced'. That said, they make the best Kill Team ever.
Whenever I build a new army, I keep a record of all the sergeants who've had their squads wiped out then legged it, the chimera crews who've lost their tank and danced the Runaway Waltz, and all the Stormtroopers who've been holding objectives and then decided to think with their feet and make a dash over the hill and into the wild blue yonder, losing me a game, then put them together in a Last Chancers Squad and watch them all die in some loud and pointless battle a few weeks down the line with grimly morbid satisfaction.
That way the've got their own background, history and character, and of course modeling them is fun too.
