this article might be better in the beginners board i wasn't sure....if I'm wrong please delete/transfer this post at will alright I'm currently in a dilemma about what force i should take. i have it narrowed down to two choices 1: massive infantry supported by a single basilisk and 18 to 24 mortars with 5 commissars (Russian style army) 2: i would take the doctrine grenadier and mechanized and would buy back the tech priest engineers , storm troopers and ether the rattling or heavy weapon platoons. my army would use the blitzkrieg ways of the WWII Germans (and would be painted as an SS division) they would have 2 leaman Russ and a basilisk (would be modeled as German tanks) as well as 2 hellhounds and half-track chimeras i would be able to use both army well, but I'm having trouble deciding which to use. so here's my questions: which is a better all around army? which would look the most awesome? and of course : why? thx in advance

-Option 1, but with 2 Bassies -There is nothing more awesome for your enemy to face endless lines of infantry, especially if you add conscripts as meatshields -There is only one option for me to choose. *points to location

Hrm I guess I'll play devil's advocate here :] even though my own list has 11 mortars and 2-3 bassies, I'll say option 2.
Grenadiers are fun to use, actually hitting MORE then half the time is a refreshing change to an IG player. buying back units though I would take ratlings/heavy weapon squads and leave the techpriest at home. As cool as they look I've never really seen them be a deciding factor in victory, whereas I've seen ratlings and heavy weapon squads perform decisively.
I'm a big half-track freak, my chimeras and hellhound are both based on em ;D so I guess I'm biased in that department. Plus lets be honest, ww2 germans look classy.
In all honesty though, either force is a fine option. If they are tooled up right both could take on just about anything. Option 2 is cheaper and less time consuming though.

If you want to use option 2 please with the right minis and without meta-humans. If you're already going for the doctrines, you should go for the right look and feel as well. So Steel Legion or FW DKoK. Everything would just look strange.

I think the german army would look more impressive...since they have nicer uniforms...gotta admit that they certainly dressed up for genocide. The Russkies would be cool too since the artillery and such, but dont forget that you can also take mechanized with them. After all they were famous for their T-34s...chimera... And many other tanks. So dont forget about them. But the waffen SS were pretty cool in the fact that they were elite, and that would be some fun fluff, I mean for doctirines and such. Die Hards ect. The Russkies you could even make em NKVD if you wanted(NKVD=soviet Elites/internal troops) and use grenadiers and such. Play around with it. As for models, valhallans are definite for the russians, but they are also expensive, you can use regular guard, just make their helmets look a little more like the M40 helmet, I mean come on, they look like "modern" soviet troops already. The SS, well, I dont think the steel legion would work, the SS were around during WW2, not WW1, there was no chem warfare, but then again this is based in the 41st millenium, so maybe. Other models would be regular guardsmen, convert them up, make em original and with the correct paint scheme they can look wonderful, there was somebody on here before who did up an SS infantry man...I forget the username...bah, anywho... And remember the germans used mechanized infantry, so, maybe proxy chimerae with converted halftracks and such? Maybe? Well, good luck!

Commissar the Steel Legion models were designed after German WW2 troops, while the DKoK are German troops WW1.
