I have been reading the codex latly and noticed there are no black people. I find it strange that with the billions of men and millions of planets black people just didn't make it to the guard.
My friends addmit there are no painted models in the codex but there are plenty of drawings. such as the flamer on the front page. Or perhaps all the Space Marines with helmets on are black?
Am I the only guy to notice this or have people argued about it before? Opinions plz ;D

hi dude the problem i think that i have found when ever i try to paint black minitures it's damn hard to make it look even half convincing, most of my attempts have come out rather like a chocalate xmas decoration, its very hard to get a convincing shading i find if any one has any tips would be helpful, if you look through all the game generes there are rarly any black models, i dont think this is down to anything other then the difficulty of painting a black mini on that scale i've had better success with larger models though, its the shading and highlighting that just doesnt seem to work on that 28mm scale well.

There is at least one black in the 4th edition rule book in the kill team section.
Well and in my Regarian army there are blacks and whites. Even one of my officers is black, but I play around with skin colour really often. One of my armies is actually made of albino Afriel Strain troopers (but I haven't painted the normal humans in the command squads yet, so perhaps I'll give them a darker skin tone as contrast to the normal troopers)

I have an entire unit of Black guys. They usually don't make it off the field though.

The problem with painting black guardspeople is the skin colour, its easy to paint white/pink flesh, but darker skin tones is harder to paint.
By rights, most tallans should be black though.

I've had a play around with different skins tones and not found it that difficult. Admitedly, my darker skin tones often end up a bit lighter than I planned so more Indian than Afrikan, but still looks cool. Adds a bit more depth too IMO.

I am not going to add much to this topic, because you might as well argue "Why are there no Western Asians or Eastern Asians?" or what not.

The first Black model I painted was a Catachan. I give them Dark Flesh and a Bestial Brown drybrush and they look awsome.
As for the Tallaren comment I give everyone Demolition charges.

Why would the Tallarn be black? it doesn't make sense! Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, if Tallarn aren't black, you must acquit!

It doesn't make sense for them to be black. The Tallarn are the original colanisers offspring. If the original colanisers weren't black why would they're kidz be?
If I went to live in a desert fora few years I wouldn't suddenly become black, it's silly!

I've always painted all my infantry varying "racial colors" with varying highlights and washes as well to get even more diverse colors. I tend to do about 60-70% of them as variations of caucasian, with the rest a mix of darker and redder skin. Since it's my army, my fluff - it IS representative.

good stuf mardaddy, thats exactly what i do with my army, variations in skin colour amongst squad members provides a sense of unique representation of the many men and women fighting in the Imperial guard

If your offspring lived in the desert for a few thousand years then odds are they would become black.... like if they lived in perpetual night then they would become albinised-ish.
But it should be noted, that apparently the easist way to paint black IG is to simply apply a drybrush of dark flesh to a chaos black overcoat. maybe mix some dwarf flesh in with the dark flesh to highlight.

Hey they are whatever color you want them to be. Just find a paint scheme you like. To be honset the only time I ever thought about it was whan I painted up one of my Russes like the A-Teams van, and only MR. T can drive the A-Teams van. Heck I even moded the guy to have a mohawk and the gold chains. And Tallarns are the "Arabic" styled army so yeah they are black.

Sorry to disappont you, but Tallarn's won't be black at all. Tallarns are always wearing hood and aren't leaving much skin without protection. The best colour for Tallarns would be Tanned Flesh. You should imagine the Tallarns more Egyptians or Iraqis. And as far as I know they're not black at all. They have a darker skin colour like Europeans, but not black at all.

knight,
I don't have Tallarn's; but if I did..... I'd actually use Tanned Flesh as the last highlight, hoods may be great and all, but even the hooded arabian types have pretty dark skin, but yea - I understand what you are getting at and all.

Mine is the Catachan officer with a bolter and his fist in the air. He is in the IG codex where you see the squad of Catachans with two squads and an HQ. the one with two Auto guns. Anyways, I to gave him a mohawk. I made it out of snow. And the metal plate gave him the perfect gold thingy. He was my first black guy. By the way I am with the tanned flesh thingy. I figure there more arab then black. Honestly I think Catachans should be the black ones ya know, jungle,.... Amazon jungle these guys are right out of South Africa.
