I know this has probably been posted somewhere some time ... and I can feel the breath of the Commissar getting mad at my even THINKING along these lines ... but I have to ask ...
With all teh THEMED armies I am reading on here, whose VEHICLE models are you all using. Some guys are purists. Some guys will use what is on hand, and some will get just that right model from WHEREVER to make it loko right for their army.
Now, I know I won't be able to play in "official" games ... but I'm adding some "modern" 1:35 models to my army (desert raiders) and modifying them ... just to get a different feel that looks "right" ...
M109A6 Paladin SPAA guns for Basilisks Marder A2's for Chimeras PZKW's w/ 40mm AT guns for Command Salamanders
That sort of thing.
Thoughts?

Yup...I see... TRAITOR!!! O.o Nah man, alot of people do it. I do as well, its real fun to take a modern vehicle and 40K it up so it looks like it can take on anything the enemy has to offer while still looking normal and like an actual tank...instead of the weird ass leman russ with its super tall frame and funny angle. Yeah, its not uncommon to convert from 1:35 ect.

Call me a purist then, but I do play tournaments with my army so I am in a position where I need to have the real thing.

Its pretty much in proportion IMO... either that or theres something wrong with my eyes . Plus its better to be a purist... They wouldnt let me in the store if they even saw me with a model that wasnt theirs round my area... Besides you surely could spruce up an original model to get "the right look" i mean thats what green stuff is for hehe

Shoot, we got guys scratch-building foamcore shapes of Rhino's and such to fill in until they get around to buying them. Put a "Green Army Man" soft plastic tank turret on it - it's a Predator! Put a missile box on the top - it's a Whirlwind! Every piece of one guy's Armored Company is almost all 1/35 & 1/48 scale models, I think he has only one actual Russ in it... But his converted Hydra is nice. It's a matter of cost & convenience rather than model theme or preference with most in our group - Let's face it, most of us gamers are cheap, me included, and if we can find a way to fill in the gaps until we have the disposable cash to get the real-deal, it ain't gonna stop us from playing! We give the proxy models a hard time, but it is all in fun until they get around to buying the actual models (except the one guy's Armored Company, he has no plans to change anything - bought the BIG Apoc Russ set and only plans to ADD them to his army ) The proxies do not stop us from playing, but we do draw the line at empty bases (a plain base with no figure.)

I`d have to agree that the Leman Russ is out of proportion. Not in terms of height though, I`d say in terms of lenght. I think its not long enough.

In my opinion, there aren't any vehicles (at least in the tank and arty variety) that are close to correct scale, ESPECIALLY the APC's. I really want to know how they expect to get 12 men in a CHIMERA and still be able to fight. The land raider was supposed to hold 6 TERMINATORS. Give me a break. And we won't even mention the RHINO. They are getting closer, as I see the models getting BIGGER ... but I don't think the overall scale of the MODEL matches that of the FIGURE.
