knight if you look at the dynamics of the DE codex and compare it with the rumors of what is coming in 5th edition they come out smelling like roses while Guard get raked over the coals.
Back on topic.
It is my understanding that what GW is doing with all the old bits is looking at the prior sales and is in process of packaging them into blisters and boxes to be sold in that fashion.
Considering hw my past orders were I am not sure that someone else is going to appreciate it. I mean just because I needed 45 familiars doesn't mean that anyone else is going to be needing any number of them(Yes I just bought 45 familiar demonettes for my guard army). Or the fact that I bought 120+ female models over the course of a years time in various numbers. How many people are going to want that? Just my ordering habit and the things I ordered could effect what everyone else is going to need to buy to get the part they need now. Sure someone might want 5 necromunda weapon sprues to get the five lasguns off of them, or even the couple of shotguns. But how many of you are going to want a blister of 5 warrior women? How many people want 15 40mm bases that ordered for a specific project, or the number of 25mm bases I had to bit order because when you dit out a figure they don't send the freaking base with the model? or even 6 Tanith Ghost female models? Their new system is flawed before it even gets off the ground because EVERYONE who ordered bits did so for their own reasons. Most oftern the large orders had a specific conversion/ army design in mind. Do you really want to trust the other players out there that they might have put together something useful for you?
I think they are looking at this in a backwards direction. IF they really wanted to clear the warehouse then they should have done a phase out program and announced this model will no longer be available after XX date. Then they could package that one model that was left and put it out for limited release or even discounted it for sale to get rid of it faster. This would have saved time and money that they are not having to spend.
This is what other figure companies do and you never hear a complaint from the collectors or people who play those table top games.
Sure it is a matter of GW making a profit, but they are going to loose money on this. Not too many people are going to buy a $20 box to get that one figure, or bit they need. They will just wait for bits trade day and get it from the locals who already have the item they are looking for.
IF you look at the new catalog all sections of itare gray tabbed. There are like 18 pages dedicated to guard with only 12 pages of items that have sale numbers. 6 pages are dedicated to pretty pictures. Of those 12 pages you are limited to very few choices. It is truly depressing.
The new bits ordering catalog (seperate catalog now) is even worse. Very few items are parted out for individual sale. I think the only items I seen were a set of Gargoyle wings and a bunch of SM shoulder pads. WTF? Far be it for an IG player to want to actually order that box set of Shaffers last chancers and the individual models anymore. Now as guards players are we going to be limited to SM sized weapons for our conversions? Anyone who has tried this will know that the weapons sprues for guard were different sized for SM. It doesn't work.
Heaven forbid to have someone in the sales department to actually think with an educated mind. Guess the business schools are teaching something else now a days versus how to actually run a business intelligently.
Yes I understand that GW wants to turn a profit, Yes I understand it is their company and they can do what they wish, but WE are the customers. We are the ones who drive the demand for a bit. WE are the ones who buy, we are the ones who will no longer have to hand our money over to them just to get a $2 bit now that the one part I want is going to be a part of a boxed, or blister pack.
(end rant)
