i just do vermin brown up to dwarf flesh, it doesn't look perfect but it works when you are painting 60+ guardsmen.

a'ight, you put as basecoat schorched brown. then, you add dwarf flesh in ratio 1:3 (1/4 dwarf flesh, 3/4 schorched brown) and carefully paint whole face, leaving basecoat in depths. then, add more dwarf flesh (2:2), and again same thing, leaving a little strip of previous colour next to basecoat. then add more dwarf flesh, repeat, more dwarf flesh. when you get to the point when you use only dwarf flesh, add elf flesh, put this colour as a highlight. at the end, pure elf flesh. mini dots on highlighted areas. that's my way to paint faces, though i use this one only on special charachters (officers, commissars), because on the small piece of face in normal guardsmen it's difficult to make so many layers:)

start off with a base coat of Tanned Flesh (or Dark Flesh and paint tanned flesh over it). Next, paint a mix of 50:50 tanned flesh and Dwarf Flesh leaving tanned flesh in the darkest parts and if you can, blend it in. After that, apply a highlight of pure DF on the raised parts before applying your final highlight of 50:50 DF and Elf Flesh onto the eyebrows, nose and cheeks. The last highlight may not work well on helmated guardsmen.

The one i tend to use is dwarf flesh, then brown ink, then a mix of dwarf and elf flesh, then elf flesh highlights. But if youre painting loads of guardsmen, you can get away with dwarf flesh, brown ink, then reapply the dwarf flesh.

this is how i paint flesh...
i use dark flesh as the basecoat of the skin
i then paint everything except for the deep recesses with tanned flesh. after this step use dwarf flesh, then elf flesh.
if you want your faces to be detailed and blended, mix the colors in between and work your way up to elf flesh.
i dont really like using inks because it makes their faces all shiney haha

Basecoast:Terracota:Water 1:1 next layer: Terracota:tanned flesh:Water 1:1:1 next layer: tanned flesh:elf flesh: water 2:1:2 Highlight raised areas generously(aka the whole raised part Next layer: Flesh wash:water 1:3 (or orgyn flesh wash without any water) next layer: Tanned flesh:Elf flesh:water 1:1:1 use this to to do raised areas, make sure its done lightly last layer(highlight) Tanned Flesh: Elf flesh: Water 1:2:2, highlight were light would hit on the face, and any points you want to stand out(i use a brush about half as thick as a fine detail brush for this)
this create a darkish skin tone that highlight the facial feature, thats a quick overview i use a method about 3 times longer to paint model to display standards.

I do flesh in a simple way, here it is: Chaos Black Undercoat Dwarf flesh over entire face, but be careful not to distort details mix elf flesh and dwarf flesh with mostly elf flesh into a small mixing pot to store it. Now paint all the highly raised areas with the "Dwelf" flesh as I call it. Finally, heavily wash it with ogryn flesh (before ogryn flesh was invented, however, I used chesnut ink) You know what, I now realize that since chesnut ink doesn't exist anymore, I'm gonna get to tell younger players that it was how I washed my guardsmen's flesh...

Do some sort of dark base coat and dry brush over it with a lighter flesh color. this is just a basic way to do flesh until you get better. Also if you dont like inking paint the flesh a light color and carefully water down tanned flesh and use that. it almost has the same effect as ink but you have to do it just right so experiment a little. If you mess up lighty dab the area you messed up on with a peice of cloth but dont wipe because that will cause problems.

1: tallarn flesh 2: dwarf flesh 3: ogryn flesh wash (not too thick, but enough to make depth) You're done, and it's easy as hell! i simpely use the foundation tallarn flesh and high light with elf flesh That's my boy...

Just use it on the top of the cheek bones, front of the nose, the eyebrow bits and of couse on the bottom of the chin. hope this helps, Daniel

Never use Devlan Mud on flesh. it doesn't work, it looks like the figures have taken a turd and rubbed it all over their face! Use ogryn flesh. For highlighting, I have recently found a new method: 1) Tallarn Flesh 2) Ogryn Flesh 3) Tallarn Flesh 4) Ogryn Flesh 5) Elf Flesh 6) Ogryn Flesh

i know this post is old but painting ideas are never old! Well here is probably the quickest way to do flesh on a cadian head - spray white undercoat.... then wash face lightly once or twice with ogryn flesh, dot the eyes with watered down white and touch the lips with a (heavily) watered down baal red and your done.honestly it looks great on officers and one off's i will always go with - base undercoat - white spray 1st coat - tallarn flesh followed by an ogryn flesh wash 1st highlight - dwarf flesh then a final highlight of elf flesh. cheers Mithril

Here is the method i use now that we have the Washes: Step 1: Complete layer of Tallarn flesh Step 2: Wash with gryphonne sepia. Step 3: Layer Tallarn flesh making sure to leave some of the previous colour as shading. Step 3: Highlight with Elf flesh Simples as that, and this is what i end up with:
