this tutorial will show you the basics of painting guardsmen from the cadian 8th, as the title says.
SKILL LEVEL: basic, you just need to know how to take care of a brush and how to drybrush
PLEASE NOTE
the model i used is a special test model that was built to show all of the types of model parts on any of your guardsmen
PAINTS USED:
tallarn flesh, mechrite red, calthan brown, scorched brown, mithril silver, bleached bone, catachan green, knarloc green, Iyanden darksun, and dwarf flesh
STEP 1: undercoat your guardsman
basecoat your guardsman black via any means necessary it should look like this
STEP 2: The armour and fatigues
paint the fatigue (cloth) scorched brown, and the armour, catachan green. you should get something like this
STEP 3: highliting the Armour and fatigues
using Knarloc green, drybrush said colour onto all of the armour. then using calthan brown, drybrush onto the fatigues
STEP 4: finishing off the armour and fatigues
you now need to use bleached bone to drybrush onto the cloth, once this is done, youre done with the armour and fatigues
STEP 5: Flesh and gear
using scorched brown, drybrush all ammo pouches, canteens, belts, straps, boots and anything leathery, then paint the flesh calthan brown
STEP 6: highlighting flesh and gear
drybrush the gear calthan brown and then drybrush tallarn flesh onto the skin, then drybrush again with dwarf flesh
STEP 7: lasguns\pistols and chainswords\knives
for lasguns and laspistols, paint all but the barrel, gun sight, stock, and grip catachan green. drybrush mithril silver (or chainmail) onto the barrel, sight, stock and grip. for chainswords and knives, drybrush them mithril silver and for the handles, any kind of brown.
STEP 8: commissar style caps, SGT chevrons, yellow tassels, and the imperial aquilla (the eagle fingy)
using mechrite red (or any other red) pait the caps red, then (if applicable) paint the eagle fingys gold, or chainmail as well as any other metal bits. for the SGT chevrons, use Iyanden darksun, as regular yellow will take 5 or 6 coats, same goes with the tassels
This now concludes my tutorial. Any and all feedback\appreciation is welcome, as well as any pointers to mispelled words, errors, missing pics.
