I'm thinking about starting out for a Chaos Nurgle Space Marines army. I'm thinking about a close combat orientated army So far I'm thinking; (1) SpcMarine with a Nurgle Icon (1) Squad Plague Marines with Rhino (1) Terminator Squad (I'll buy a Death Guard Conversion set) Typhus Herald of Nurgle Nurgle Dreadnought

That sounds like an reasonable start, even if I think that Typhus is a bit too expensive as starting HQ. A cheap Sorceror or General would be in my oppinion the better choice. The rest is a really solid idea and really reasonable.
The normal CSM with Icon of Nurgle are tough guys already and quite a good choice (like all CSM). Death Guard... If I wouldn't dislike Nurgle that much my most favourite choice together with Rubric Marines... Terminators are really good. Plan on what you want them to do when assembling. My Slaanesh Terminators are mostly for short range assaults out of an Land Raider. So they're mostly equipped with Lightning Claw Pairs and flamer weapons A Dread is always good. No further points...
Little tactics tip on Terminator equipment... Deepstriking: They can make good use of both weapons. The Reaper Autocannon and the Heavy Flamer are both useful. Equip depending on your main opponents Land Raider: Heavy Flamer. The Reaper is too expensive and you'll rarely make use of its superiror range On foot: Reaper Autocannon. You have more time for shooting this way and you can fire the Reaper all the time while advancing.

Not many others get in the Eye of Terror here. I think I'm the one who is in here most of the time. So all Chaos realted questions can normally directly to me.

Hey, are bikes a good idea?

Nurgle bikers are amazingly tough, you just have to keep them away from melee as they will get bogged down. They can fill a lot of roles but I run mine with 2 flamers, because I have issues dealing with snipers otherwise.

Nurgle Bikers aren't any tougher than Khorne, Tzeentch (ok they're a bit tougher due to their inv safe), or Slaanesh Bikers. The toughness bonus of the bike isn't cumulative with the toughness bonus of the Icon of Nurgle. But Bikers are actually most of the time a good idea. For some armies they're actually really fluffy

I don't see a rule anywhere that says that nurgle bikers don't have 6 toughness. Since the bikes are allowed to take an icon of nurgle which does nothing than give them +1 t (and a teleport homer). It seems to me that if they did not intend to give nurgle bikers t6 then they would not have given it to them as an option.

Ok, it got changed they now may get T6. But be aware that strong weapons will still cause you trouble. And especially be aware that your Chaos Lord on Bike with Mark of Nurgle will still die after one hit with a Meltagun. The additional Toughness doesn't count against instant killing.
And starwoof what is so bad about being stuck in close combat? I never have problems with my Berserkers there...

The few times Ive used nurgle bikers they've gotten bogged down in combat for long periods of time. Even with a powerfist they lack a real punch. Though of course I am used to possessed and terminators and such. Bikes =/= Berserkers.

Nurgle Bikes != Khorne Bikes It works with every Khorne unit quite well. Just the sheer amount of attacks helps alot against any opponent. And I honestly say that every Chaos Mark is quite good. The weekest mark itself is imho the Mark of Tzeenth (the normal troops don't really profit from the 5+ save). My list: 3. Mark of Tzeentch 2. Mark of Slaanesh (a cool thing to tell Smurfs that you strike before them) 1. Mark of Nurgle/Mark of Khorne (They equally good in my oppinion. The extra attacks are as powerful as the extra toughness)

I run with tzeentch on my lord, sorceror and terminators, nurgle on my havocs, undivided/slaanesh on my marines, and khorne on my possessed and other lord.
I have a friend who plays death guard. He has 50 something plague marines. When it comes to objective games he can just hunker down and outlast *anything*.

That's true. But I can't do that. I'm going for a cult army (I have a started Slaanesh one, and now on to World Eaters). I'll try to get as many Khorne Berserker sets as possible and also a lot of the FW stuff. It just looks too cool.

speaking of theme I've got black legion with undivided all around, no deamons( actually I have 2 spawn...) no cult marines, combined my possessed and bezerkers to make chaos chosen, gave each of my 15 man squads 2 assault weapons and put all my heavy bolters in another big squad of havoks, lead by a sorceror lord in terminator armor and backed up by a defiler.
they haven't got too much game time yet, but they look scary standing behind my army of zombie guardsmen.

This is quite interesting... as far as I can tell bikers are good(?) and Khorne has a good Icon. Speaking of which, the forge world Khorne looks awesome

A model Ive been using to good effect is a Khorne Lord on a Juggernaut with a daemon weapon. Last week he steamrollered through an entire space marine army with 10-18 attacks a turn.
I had a battle with plague marines today. I managed to win but 4 plgaue marines managed to hold up 15 daemons and 10 marines for 4 turns, and another unit effectively stopped my possessed in their tracks. Don't underestimate plague marines.
EDIT: Tzeentch terminators are also pretty awesome.

True, but making a sorceror a Terminator is no good idea. You actually lose an attack (so unless you don't want to get into CC, bad idea). My Slaanesh sorceror is armed with forceweapon and plasmapistol. Andyes Plague Marines are awesome. When you want to get rid of them, you'll need plenty of S8 weapons or otherwise this will be a long battle...

My sorceror is in power armor and usually rolls with either the possessed or marines.

You'll be waiting a few years then... I arm my dreadnought with a lascannon because I have little long range anti tank punch. Plus when he goes ape nuts he only shoots me twice instead of twice with a plasma cannon.
