satg, your his own personal fan club eh? kidding, Itericwatts has some awesome ideas, but uses a great deal of metal, which makes us slightly more casual, hardcore geeks out of his league, in a good way. my suggestions is to use a fair whallop of plastic card to build the shell around the nerf gun, of course the problem is that if it jams, which that nerf model does do, you cant easily get into them to remove the jam. check out the thread stag mentioned, it has a great scale pic of a heavy bolter that might help you alot. if you decide to work with plastics perhaps see if you discover any tricks on my bolter.blog? it will not be easy, but it should be alot of fun if you get it right. EDIT: as a start, geta vacuum tube from a hardware store, they sell replacements. a few gauges of plastic pipe, one that will fit over the barrel of the nerf gun, and a second size thats smaller that can be the view finder or whatever the cylinders are above and below the barrels remove the handle and either move it or replace it with something thats closer the a heavy bolter (or keep it how it is) the boxy shapes ive drawn are very rough places i would start bulking up to make it look like a bolter. obviously the more detailed you are, the better.

...........ok kommissar maybe i should put "Itericwatts rocks" at the end of my posts haha
i like your idea for the nerf gun its fairly simple but would be so cool! but as always ill put my 2 cents in and say that you could use some high density foam to bulk out the front and then use plastic card to finish it off. it will keep it lite so it wont "tip" with the weigh at the front but will give the desired look.
have fun it looks to be a cool project

Thats a very nice idea, I´ve seen this toy in an german board, discussion about an wh40k larp and the possibility of easy weapons making( they have the same problem, they can´t do something in metal, or they are studends without money to spend for the material). The form of this toy is fantastic, how stable is this type of plastic?? And what is the size of the toy?? Greets Watts

@ basaliskian : If you have seen the pics of the bolt pistol conversion of kommissar than I think, you know that he can handle this project by himself without my help... greets watts

I have yet to buy it, but is the first thing I am purchasing when my pay check comes in . I will appraise you of it then. my friend has one, its light enough to walk with, he lost the ammo, so I dont know about firing it. its fairly rigid and takes a bit of a beating. size of it is around the same in proportion to the scout in the picture.

Ok...waiting for the post.... Greets Watts

update
Link is fixed for all who want to see it. and yes, just a bit lighter ltericwatts.
I have informed the Commisariat of his failure and that I dispensed the Imperial Justice as is my right as an Inquisitor. however, I had to destroy his weapons because they may have been tainted by Chaos.

ltericwatts, better three minds than two, if you have ideas, throw them out there! the plastic card stuff i use is about 1mm think, you can break it after scoring it with a craft knife pretty easy, through i usually cut it deep and then snap it to make sure the lines stay even. if you glue it with super glue and make sure you use anchor points, its pretty solid. i mean unlike your bolt pistol, i'd never bash a tree with it! heh but it stands upto abuse of my friends playing around with it and such when i'm not totting it around at a convention.

Have you checked with you local Adeptus Mechanicus for trying to improve on a tried and trusted design. As you know the Mk.IVa Heavy Bolter has served the Imperium for many hundreds of years. If you do not have the sanction of your local Adeptus forge I will be force to terminate your function. Unauthorized 'tinkering' is illegal and shall be dealt with most severely.
Seriously though its an awesome idea.

as one of the leading members of the Ordo Xenos of the Recongretionist faction, in the Segementum pacificus, Sector Voltren, I have of course contacted the Forge World of Voltren VI and they have allowed me to continue with my work. It will be carried out by the Tech Priest in my retinue, Tech Adept Lorgain.
thanks

you can buy extra belts, but i know for a fact they do not connect well onto each other, they weigh the gun down and causes alot of jams. they are just plastic belts that you slip any nerf ammo you care for into. i think the extra belts ive seen for sale were around 20 bucks each.. half the price of the gun

thats around £10 then, not really an issue for me, and its just a case of experimentation. oh and staghound, as they are jsut foam darts, then you should be able to get them. If this works, then this could be the way forwards for 40k pre-enactment
