So, I started me an IG army. I've made some grunts, and in the character department, I've done a commie and a junior officer. If you've been watching this forum you'll probably have seen them already, but I do like showing off, so here they are again:
After painting those two guys I was definately ready for some regular grunts, but true to form it didn't take long for me to start another crazy conversion project on the side. This time, it's the big kahuna, the top dog - the field commander! Before I even started on this guy, I decided that whatever I would do, it would be big enough to make sure that in spite of whatever crazyness I might come up with a a later date, this guy would still very obviously be the boss of everything. After playing around with a few ideas and drawing a number of sketches, I decided that a mount would be in order. But not just some animal, oh no ... in an army ripe with witch hunter flavor, what could be more fitting than archeotech? Nothing, that's what. I love hover-tech, so with that in mind, I set out to build a ride worthy of a commander...
True LOS is gonna be a b*tch:
...but meh, totally worth it
(that's the sarge of my first light guard infantry unit, btw. Why is he carrying a snail? Well, because surely the Emperor- blessed be his name -, like the snail, beneath his hard exterior, is really quite squishy. Anyone who disagrees is a heretic)
I wanted the commander himself to be pragmatic in his appearance, cool and collected as a good general should be, and let the hovercraft provide the mandatory touch of crazy. I am very, very pleased with how it's looking so far, and all with minimal cutting and zero greenstuff... so far, at least. I'm currently contemplating where to go from here. I'll definately be adding an etched brass eagle to the front armour, and filling out the two gaps beneath the gun. I will probably also increase the size of the floor (is that the right word?) of the ride to give him solid footing. Another idea I've got is adding fur to the upper edge of the armour plating to match his cloak, but then again, I do like the somewhat bare-bones look. Finally, a few scrolls or purity seals might be added. The spiky designs on the front and the cape stay, simply because it would be too risky trying to remove it... I'd most definately damage the parts beyond my ability to repair them. I'll just downplay it with the paintjob. Besides, it's doesen't look that chaotic to me.
Comments/thoughts are most welcome!
PS. A cookie large enough to have its own gravitational pull will be awarded to whoever can name the 7 kits I stole bitz from to make this conversion. I'm gonna give you the first one, just because it would be downright impossible to guess:
1. Right hand - high elf archer
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
Fire at will, gentlemen.
