I am trying to make some catachan storm troopers since im not using doctrines. I thought it would be a good idea. If any one has any thoughts please post. I am thinking of just buying the storm trooper box and mix and matching parts with that from the catachan sprue.

Would you end up with Catachan Storm Troopers or Cadian body-builders? And fluff wise the jungle doesn't strike me as the sort of place where storm troopers would be needed, as small, covert teams could get the same task accomplished. (I know they don't fight JUST in the think jungle)
Could look cool though and depends what you want out of it. I'm sure someone here has tried this already and if you search on the Pictures thread there's bound to be some examples to show you what it looks like.

it is going to be hard to mix and match parts with molded all metal stormtroopers, unless your really talented I suggest you wait a little while before you try to do this, seeing as we have rumored plastic stormtroopers coming out some time next year.

lol cadian body builders. yes I have heard that plastic storm troopers wil be out soon and I agree that I should wait. but what I was thinking about doing is that I would use the storm trooper parts and add jungle camo to them with green stuff. kind of like leaf camo neting. I was also thinking I could trim the cords off of the hellguns and replace some of the bulkier parts by filing them down to make them look more comando rather than urban warrior. I was also thinking about replacing some of their heads with some diffrent looking catachan heads. I understand that this is a strange thing to do but since im not using regimental doctrines it limits the number of veteran squads I can have down to one. So I am hoping to have these guys replace some of that. and if it dosnt work then at least I will have some cool modles.

Well, you can always use Green Stuff to try and make armour on Catachan bodies. They don't wear any armour normally, so anything would improve thier cover save. Antoher thing to consider is just giving normal models Hellguns, kneepads and elbow pads, etc. and not worrying about Carapace. Catachans don't use Stormtroopers, but there's no reason they can't have Grenadier- style shock troops, so you can just give the standard trooper the Grenadier kit and call it good, I think

Hmmmm...you want catachan stormies, eh? Well, you could get cadian torso's, catachan arms, cadian les, and catachan heads. Green stuff on some respirator masks, and put some back packs on and attach some old headphone wire to the lasgun and the backpack for the hellgun...sounds like a very intersting idea. Some people you should talk to in order to recieve advice on conversions:
Bobahat Jake777
That's all I can think of right now, but those two guys are definatly the best converters among our ranks as of now! Go for it! I want some picks, on the double, conscript!

You deserve it mate I agree with the above suggestions: some greenstuff on plastic or metal models should do the trick. You might also want to take a look at Big Red One on Warseer; it's a project log started by bungaroo and he added camo-netting on his stormies. You could try that (I did and it works pretty good!) and paint it in jungle colours. Good luck, post some pics when you'll get started!

yes the camo netting thing is a pretty good idea it seems. so I guess I will have to use that as a basis for my modles buy some 100g tubes of green stuff and have at it. I am sure that the modle itself will talk to me as I am sculpting and I will be able to work out the kinks. I will definately post pics from a start to finished modle once I get going on it. currently I am just keeping notes since there are things I have to finish before I start this project.

i wouldnt waste money on a box of kasrkins to convert just use some plastic models and use plasticard and stuff to convert them into storm stroopers i think that would make them look alot more unique

Yep, that could really do it. Could even try this: Scout legs, Cadian torsoes, catachan heads and arms and some simple conversion out of various lasguns to make hellguns. Maybe add some knee and thigh guards to emphasize the Carapace Armour. And of course, lots of various bits from various kits to give them this "elite" feel.

if u try the scouts bodies with catachan arms, leg and heads, i was messing round with the idea, but i wanted the shoulder pads, for the squad markings.
I wouldn't try with cadian arms they are to much of a pain to get into place theres to much filing down of the armour, arms and gun. I tried and just ended up ruining the detail.
With the catachan ones its easier to set because of the guns being separate in the first place.

Keep in mind: Basaliskian is a Heavy Regiment Captain, so he doesn't understand Catachans and their utter lack of uniform. It's okay, he just doesn't understand!
