went and accidentally bought the standard infantry box with 20 models...
so I was wondering, alot of you spray-undercoat your mini's, but i have no place to spray, so is doing it with a brush worth it? or do i really have to wait for summer?
I also bought 2 foundation paints and 2 washes: khemri brown, knarloc green, ogryn flesh and devlan mud... now, as i understand it, the foundation colours are to 'help' the base colour show better? (i know the washes are used to shade)
Cheers,
Martin
PS: have a baneblade sitting on the shelf, need some backup for her, eh?

Painting is another option yes. If you water it down a touch you should get the same effect, it just takes longer. And you can spray anywhere, it doesnt spread everywhere. If you put them in a shoebox, (on top of something) and held some paper behind it that would probably do the trick. Just leave a window open Not sure about ogryn flesh but the other 3 you could use, although the devlan mud could give them a dirty look compared to a factory fresh look (boot camp fresh?)

Well you can use the wash to get some shading and then put highlights/drybrush over the area to get a cleaner look with some shading in the recesses. I believe that newcomer did a tutorial for painting Cadian 8th and there are two on the GW website (the one you see in the codex and a darker one).

Cool, bear in mind that if you do use the ink on your guys, that it takes forever to dry properly so do it at night or something.
The guide that I'm using as a template is on the official UK site and is under WH40k Articles > Painting Articles.
Good luck anyway, and post some pics when they're done or if you get stuck.

if your using them for the main painting then yes, slightly. I dont know much about using them, as I only use tallarn flesh for the skin of mine.

What type of regiment you doing? is their armour gonna be green, and fatigues brown, or other way around? Also, the washes, when you do use them, don't water them down, and apply it on thick. Trust me, it doesn't look good initially, but as it dries, it looks amazing.

No, not boring: I play the Cadian 8th, and they look spectacular! Just takes some time and practice to get good at it. Also, about the usage of foundation paints - yes, always, always always always paint over your undercoat with a foundation paint. It makes the reletively unrealiable citadel paints go on easier. Hell, you know how hard it was before foundation paint existed (heehee, I feel like a veteran now ) to paint red over a chaos black undercoat? Well no more! Hear this: undercoat: black basecoat armour: machrite red painted over armour basecoat: any red you want, and it look amazing! So I recomend as you expand your collection of paints (trust me, it will get unmanagably huge, and you'll even have paints that you don't friggin' need...I have like 70 bottles of paint, and counting!) to always have a foundation paint colour for a basecoat for every highlight and other primary colour you do. For example, the cadian 8th fatigue BDU's (battle dress uniform) are a pale sand colour - this shade is not friends with chaos black at all - you paint calthan brown foundation over it, then add your kommando kaki and other highlights. Works every time!!! Cheers, and good luck buddy!

ILG (Inquisitor Lord Graenis) has got it right. I always hated painting dwarf flesh over chaos black primer, but now you just tallarn flesh first, and then (what I do, at least) is mix it with the dwarf flesh to make it lighter, and go on easier. When you first apply Tallarn flesh, it looks like something you'd paint an ogre with from WHF. But don't worry, it'll look much better later. You just gotta stick with you scheme, practice painting on whatever you can get your hands on, and in time, you will improve!

ayep, the tank commander makes for a pretty good officer.
I wish I had those sort of accidents, did you go shopping at your hobby store drunk?(just kidding, I think I see what is going on here.)
now all you need to do is accidently stumble upon a chimera and you'll have yourself enough guys for a small game.
