Hey guys. I'm here to teach you the simplest ways of painting Imperial Guard fatigue uniforms, and it utilizes only 2 paints, or rather, a paint and wash.
(I will post pictures most likely by sunday. Got a 4 day weekend coming up, and I found some more spare guardsmen that don't belong anywhere really!)
Red:
Step 1: Water down Mecharite Red, and apply it to all of the fatigues.
Step 2: Apply Baal Red (an ink wash) to all of the fatigues. For lighter, apply only 1 or 2 coats. For darker, apply up to 6.
Blue:
Step 1: Water down any of the following foundation paints: Fenris Grey, Mordian Blue, Necron Abyss
Step 2: Apply a wash of Azurmen Blue to the fatigues. The same technique for darkening or lightening the shade used in the Red fatigues example applies here, as well.
Green:
Step 1: Water down Knarloc Green to all the fatigues. Or you could use Orkhide Shade
Step 2: Apply a wash of Thraka Green ink wash to the fatigues.
Grey:
Step 1: Water down any of the following foundation paints: Adeptus Battlegrey, Astronomican Grey, Dheneb Stone, Chardon Granite.
Step 2: Apply a wash of Badab Black ink wash to the fatigues. WARNING: Badab black will significantly darken your fatigue color, so apply it slowly, record how many coats you gave it, then check how dark it is, so that you gain the desired shade!!!
Brown:
Step 1: Water down some Calthan Brown and cover the whole fatigue uniform.
Step 2: Apply an ink wash of Devlan Mud to the whole uniform.
Tan:
Step 1: Water down some Kemri Brown and apply it to the uniforms.
Step 2: Apply a thorough wash of Gryphonne Sepia ink wash to the fatigues. This one is slightly more difficult to get the right look with, so apply it slowly and steadily.
Violet
Step 1: water down some hormagaunt purple and apply it to the uniform.
Step 3: apply a wash of Leviathan Purple ink wash to the uniform. Don't use too much. One coat should suffice the entire shading.
If you want another tutorial for a colour, PM me or just post here, and I'll sit my butt down in my painting chair, and figure out the best colour combination for that particular colour! Cheers!
