Can we actually tank about tank tactics.
This list is suppose to be a tank heavy army. so i have as little troops as possilbe. and blast my enemys to oblivion.
Hq Commpany command squad 55pt lasguns, grenaide launcher Chimera 55pt
Troops veterans 90pt 2 melta guns, lasguns chimera 55pt heavy bolter, multilaser veterans 90pt 2 melta guns, lasguns chimera heavy bolter, multilaser
Heavy Support 2 leman russ tanks 370pt Battle cannon, lascannon, 2 heavy bolters each 2 leman russ tanks 370pt Battle cannon, lascannon, 2 heavy bolters each 2 Leman russ demolishers 360pt Demolisher cannon, lascannon
total: 1500 pts
This is my tank army for the new codex. I have currently won 6 games with it and drew two. (my troops came in to early form reserve.)
My tactic is to blast away the enemys anti tank weapons, then contrate fire on his troops closest to the objectives. Then the chimeras come in and help mop up the remaining troops while driving to the closest objectives.
PS. I haven't lost a game yet

Sentinels are pretty epic with the Hellhound variants.
mmmm mobile cover saves for Devildog...tasty.

You could us them as cover saves, actually. Just get the squadrons of 35 point unarmored multi-laser equipped sentinels, and use them to run in front of a banewolf or something. As for a fast attack tank force - Id also utilize Creeds ability to outflank a single vehicle. Nothing says "Gakk You!" to an MEQ force like an outflanking banewolf. And same can be said about an outflanking hellhoud to a 4+ save army. For heavy support, don't get Russes. They're too slow. Get Hydra's and spam them! @john_Galt: it's stickied for a reason

When I use tanks, (only have four) i split them up into two groups. my first Squad i have a Vanquisher and Exictuioner as termi busters and the like, then my reg russes are the second Squad. i put anywhere from one to two infantry Squads supporting the tanks (mostly in Ubran maps) each squad is at a diffrent end of the board then flank the enemy army. I have only one Basilisk that sits behind a hill and lobs rounds into enemy formations. One Valkiryie that moves in w/ Strom troops and lands behind heavie troops. Sentinals stay near basilisk and is supported by two more squads, and battlion HQ rest of troops, company HQ are out in the middle moving towards the enemy. worked well my last battle

I'm going to hit the floor with laughter when these lists run into an Eldar player with Bright Lances and Fire Prisms.

Or a competent Dark Eldar player...
Why is it that most people insist on mounting Storm Troopers in Valks? As they don't need a Valk to deep strike or outflank, there is no logical reason to do so! Use a Vet squad or something that needs that Valk more!

yeah i need to work on my tanks faceinf eldar. they get ripped open wide when they see a bright lance.
the Valk w/ strom troops, I use en so i dont have to keep them in reserve so they can get in the meat of it right away without waiting. putting them in the Valk gives em a boost in fire power when a APC or LAV comes around.

I've been playing since 2nd edition and recently got back into 40k when I found out that there was a 5th edition and a new guard codex. My first game I took 4 LRMBTs and a demolisher. They all got killed at range due to multimeltas or assault squad marines. After reading the codex a bit more thoroughly I took Creed with knight commander pask in a leman Russ punisher who would come inunder the scout special rule. In the 3 turns he wasin play he killed a massive brood of gaunts, a marine tactical squad, a whirlwind, and ran over a carnifex that crapped out termagants. Pask in a scout punisher is extremely useful if you're willing to take some special characters.

And then if it lives long enough throw it into combat with potential tank killing infantry threats that the banewolf doesn't murder?

I will absolutely assist. I need to play more games in 7th edition with armor before I can really tell you what the best combinations are, but I've heard a few things, seen a few things, and figured out a few things that are really really wicked for armies that focus on a solid Leman Russ backbone (*cough* that should be every guard army)
