Just starting eldar and was wondering how people felt about the differnt aspects and armies. I really like the fluff behind Iden (sorry for the spelling) but im not to sure on what makes an Iden army. I don't have the codex (cant find a cheap one) yet but i'm hoping to get one soon. Any help/opinions would be greatly appricated.

Iyanden got mostly eaten by the tyranids, and so they use a lot of wraithlords, wraithguard, and warlocks. They are pretty expensive and play more like marines than eldar, but the iyanden army as a whole is very tough.

When my buddy was starting eldar I was a strong advocate for Ulthwe. But he quickly declined my offer because it was just my imperial guard showing (ya know, massed infantry).

Ya, ulthwe uses the cheap guardians over aspect warriors so they're more of a less skilled horde. Iyanden is really powerful, though. Those gravity cannons...

since they mentioned ulthwe and iyanden ill cover the other major 3 in order i would go (i stay away from ulthwe and iyanden and ill explain):
Biel tan- aspect warriors is the name of the game, this craftworld has the most of any of them, so id take an autarch and then go crazy on aspect warriors, maybe take a phoenix lord as well, wave serpent or two to zip your guys around, and a falcon for support/minor transport. I really really love the aspect warriors, i think they are some of the coolest models in 40k plus the exarchs get some cool abilities, this army is imo kinda elitist you need to know how to maximize the aspects since each one is really good at one thing and only that one thing.
Saim Hann- you just load up on all the grav vehicles you can, guardian jetbikes, vypers, falcons, if you take aspect warriors/guardians have a wave sperpent or put them in a falcon. Just zoom around nipping the flanks of your enemy then zoom away some more. these guys appeal to me cuz the army is so fast, nobody else can field an army almost entirely of fast vehicles, your opponent will want try and shoot at you... but wait your on the other side of the board now haha
Alaitoc- these guys have tons of rangers/pathfinders, id take a farseer, 2-3 ranger/pathfinder squads, guardians w/serpent, and prolly a falcon, again i like these guys cuz rangers are pretty damn cool they have improved cover saves, infiltrate, and move through cover, there rifles have a chance of getting an insta wound on almost anything. upgrade em to pathfinders and they get even better cover saves and a higher chance of insta wounding almost anything.
and now why i dont like the other two as much
Ulthwe- i have nothing against ulthwe really, i just like the others better, ulthwe have lots of basic infantry and light vehicles usually. lots of psykers too, idk i just dont like them as much i like the more elite stuff that the other armies have/use.
Iyanden- i pretty much hate wraithguard, i dont like the model personally, but in order to field a decent iyanden fluffy army you need to have a lot of wraithguard and at least one wraithlord(wraithlords on the other hand are badass). wraithguard have a really strong gun but its very short range, they wont ever run away. in order to get all that though they cost about double most other infantry in the codex. They also have a chance to not do anything that turn if there isnt a pysker nearby. i suppose they are good if used right but i honestly dont like them that much, id rather put my points in something faster.
its prolly also a good idea to mention that iyanden and ulthwe each have a special character unique to them, and both are pretty beastly.
I'm personally working on an eldar force and im prolly gonna go alaitoc. i love biel tan, but all aspect warriors are medal and can be a pain to glue, if you perservere though its very worth it. Saim hann costs a lot of cash for all the vehicles and im not rich XD
hope i was helpful in shedding some light on the basic structure of these armies and my opinions on possible selections but its just me, you play what you want to play and im sure you will be fine.
