20,000 points a side...
Hey, Galt... Doesn't that seem kinda small to you? Shouldn't it be more around 200,000 points a side for a map the size of a football field?

And why stop there. Just put down a 2, then keep adding zeros till you just can't find anymore guard.
Anyway, it exactly one month till the 'dex comes out where i am. New Zealand, first to see the light.

I'm on something of a winning streak now that I've found a combined arms build that works (I'll post a list in a bit). Three wins and a draw so far vs. Tau and SMurfs. I'm proud.

The new Battleforce is more useful in both game terms and on my wallet! Sadly, i stocked up on standard troop box sets and may not be buying any of the BFs. However, i need around 6ish Sentinels and pushing 5 or so command box sets. Why is my hobby building cool ass models and then never getting around to painting them?!?

yeah but at least it will be better than our current one (with the possible exclusion of doctrines which will be sorely missed).

You can do stuff in the new codex that makes more sense than the current codex. Who would try to lead a stealth army into an infiltrated position with 200 men anyway? The new 'dex allows us to take an army of stealthers with actual 4 ballistic skill, camo cloaks, 15 points for 3 snipers, and good leadership. You can run a Tanith army, a Monian army (in Puffy's case or any other elite stealth commando army! For heavy infantry - with 20 points per squad no matter how many were in it, playing a carapaced army was difficult, often pointless, and annoying anyway. Now, you can have 60 guys with carapace armour, and even put them all in chimera's without using so many points on troops that you have nothing left for other stuff. Stormies join the frey better than ever - Ap3 base weapon that rapid fires, a 6" range Ap3 pistol and a ccw for when you need 3 attacks on the bloody charge, and special ops! They're a hell of a lot better than they are now! Iron discipline? Sure! The "Rally!" order or whatever it's called is better! You pass a leadership save, which you had to do anyway with ID, and all squads that take the damn order instantly turn around! Cheaper commissars. Better ogryns. Better stormies. Betters tanks. Valkyries. Veterans as troops choices. Massive mobs of 5 point guardsmen! Conscript mobs attached to platoons like they should be. Overwhelming fire power in the form of much cheaper support squads. Plasma sentinels. Dirt cheap chimera's with better rules! Camo netting for bassies make them impossible to kill in cover. Vehicle squadrons. Awesome special characters that can SURVIVE!!! Tech-priests that can actually repair vehicles. A gas cannon on the hell hound chasis that wounds on a 2+ and ignores power armour and cover, also taken in squadrons of 3 and move like a fast tank. Heavy flamers in command squads. 5 points GL's, flamers and snipers everywhere!!! Master of the Ordnance. Bodyguard's for command squads. A tank that can shoot so many times, a small gaunt brood has virtually no chance of surviving a squardon of them. A twin autocannon tank that costs 75 points and ignores cover saves from fast moving skimmers. All mechanized platoons without having to make ALL your bloody platoons mechanized. BS4 units as TROOPS!!! I don't know what you're talking about! DOCTRINES ARE CRAP compared to our new codex!!! They're worthless, not as useful, too expensive, and entirly too narrow! Get over your bloody damn selves, you babies (and I say that with the most polite sincerity I can )!

I know doctrines were kinda overpriced almost all of the time for what you were getting but what i liked about them was the fact that they could make a guard army almost infinitely customizable, sure it would probably suck on the tabletop but it really gave that sense that the guard was so infinitely varied. But yeah the new dex' will be much better. and hey i dont care about doctrines anymore we are the only army in 40k with what are technically flyers in the codex happy days! FOR THE EMPEROR ADVANCE YOU DOGS, TAKE NOT A STEP BACKWARDS!

Wrong - Deth Kopta's are small Orky helicopters. And doctrines were NOT indefinatly customizable. They were some of the most restrictive pieces of our codex. If you took Carapace, the only unit you had that could infiltrate was hardened veterans and stormies, if you took the appropriate doctrines. If you took cameleoline, you had to give it to everyone. If you took warrior weapons - everyone had a pistol and sword for 2 points, even the ones who got it for free!. If you took mechanized...ugh *shivers*

I know doctrines weren't infinitely customizable BUT they gave you the option that if you wanted to make a highly stylized regiment you could always invent your own doctrines and ask your opponent if you could play them, in most cases so long as they weren't overpowered the people at my club didn't mind, in fact they rather enjoyed some of them as they made the scenarios we play "deeper" and more fluffy (and of course more fun!).
But yes the "codex doctrines" were very restrictive and i hear you on the mechanised subject, soo many chimeras *shudder*

i said ALMOST infinitely customizable and i hadn't read the doctrines section of the dex' for ages when i made that post. Looking back at it now (and with the codex in front of me) i can see that they were pretty restrictive.
Sorry Gaunt Elakor if i didn't make any sense and contradicted myself.
