I think the LR's look great, they look old and dated but don't look like anything from this (or the last) century. They are built using anceint designs that have had few changes over thousands of years as they've lost the knowledge of how to design new tanks.
I think that you'll have a problem making a modern tank look like it belongs in the 40k universe.
Game wise though I don't think your opponents would mind.

gw doesn't use a specific scale such as 1/35 or 1/48 when making their models, they are not proportionate. For instace, why is it that a rhino can't even hold 4 space amrines and a titan is only 18" high? This is called heroic scale which means they can make anything anysize they want.

They just call it heroic because it has no true scale, since all the models are different scales.

The LRBT is actually similar to the tanks used by the brittish army in world war 1. It is a classic and well built design that saved hundreds of lives. I believe that we should feel hounord to use it. But at the same time the pic shown above is just a forge world vanquisher its a leman russ veriant that costs 175 points instead of 140, and it has some special rules but it is still the same chassy just a different turet.

I really think that yes it may be cool to have WWI tanks, but isn't this Warhammer 40,000 not World War One? Sorry i really like the IG tanks but still wonder why the Imperial Guard, humanity, is still using WWI style tanks and not some for or flying beast as seen with the Tau and Eldar! Just a though for you all to ponder over.

the imperium of man has been sliding backwards technologically for thousands of years according to fluff and that no technological advances have been made in just as long. the Imperium of man survives technologically from the advances made in the past, not in the present day. this is why we don't have hover transports and whatnot - simply because the technology to produce them has been lost and is not something that mankind can re-achieve technologically in 40k 'current day.'
