Hey there, i wanna have a bit of diversity amongst my main-battle tanks, and i was gonna buy a 1:72 model tank and fix it up with bits from my leman russ. I also find the high-profile leman russ' too unrealistic. It would play as a leman russ, but look different. What WWII or modern tank do you think looks IG-ish?

Damn skippy the Patton! Check 'em out. Not sure they're exactly WW2 era, but they look somewhat like the LR.

The russian T-34 or maybe a KV series? I think a JS III would work perfectly.

Have a look at the French WWII heavy tank B1-bis. I am sure GW were inspired by this one to create the old Leman!!

It looks silly when you compare it to modern tanks but it fits in well with the IG fluff. A modern tank wouldn't look right on a 40k battlfield.
Some of the pre WWII french tanks woudn't be too bad-
Somua s-35 Renault R-35 Char B-1
By the way Panzer means Tank.

Actually, 1/72 scale tanks are a tad small for 40K. Its better to get a 1/ 48 scale tank. (Darkside: these are too big!! mwhahahaha!)
(The patton was a post WW2 era heavy tank based on the pershing. like its predecessor, it was kinda rubbish and got minced in Korea)
Commissar, I do not approve of your freakish unnatrural obbsession with the KV series tanks. They were the worst mistake the red army ever made. If you were'nt so high above me in the chain of command, I'd order you to go visit yourself. As it is, I'll cower in fear and hope I go unnoticed.
However, your sugestion of the JS 3 has redeemed you.
(beautiful tank that, only only armoured vehicle other than the Sherman firefly that was able to go head to head with a tiger and blow its turret clean off! (darkside: Mwhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!)

mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/I recommend the Light and Medium tanks sections in the Great Britain pages. Lots of inspiration there for strange tanks.

God damn you rolling thunder! Leave it to you to point out Michael Wittmans untimely death! Anywho, I love the KV Tanks mainly cause they would convert easy from a leman russ. Kay... That JS3 would look sweet rolling down the field. Maybe even a T-72? That would be sick! A true soviet tank!

By 'true soviet' i take it you mean- very big, ugly, tough, prone to breaking down, but fielded in the godless millions.... I just like the JS3 more. Its name is cooler, its gun is bigger (The T-72 only had a 105mm gun I believe?) and its turret is freakishly large. I plan to convert a 1/35 scale JS3 into a bane blade. by 'convert I mean- stick on 6 heavy bolters, 2 lascannons and autocannon onto the barrel, paint in my armies fatiuge colours and glare threateningly at anyone who challenges me over it.

what about scale... he started with 1/72, but after visiting the local hobby store, it is either 1/48 or 1/35... which do you guys have better luck with? I am looking at making a Striker Chimmera, but don't know the size of wheels to use... any suggestions? also, there was a picture of one floating around here, but I can't seem to locate it again, if somebody would post the link...
thanks

soviet tanks are pretty shocking really there quite small in comparrision to the mighty challenger 2, leopard 1 & 2 and abrahms if you want a tank to convert look at some of the really obscure post 1st world war era there was quite alot of crazy nonsense going on, with boffins left to there own devices, the brits and french as already stated got up to all kinds of silliness, im with woz on the fluff score the sleak lines of a challenger 2 really would look out of place on 40k battle field. unless you've a valhallen army avoid soviet equipemt, perhaps something from the early days of the 3rd riech like a panzer III or IV would look good as its all boxy and clunky, perfect for IG.
