Does the Vanquisher get the 2D6 roll to penetrate the Monolith AV??
It is not a 'bonus dice', just the ammunition of the Vanquisher penetrates with 2D6

I would say that it would be a no, but if it is proving to be a tough cookie then I would roll off about it. 1-3 your right 4-6 the monolith is right.

Aha! A 'cron question. Living Metal special rule for the 'lith says that any weapon that enables the roll of additional dice for the penetration are ignored. It would be just one D6.

They are still vulnerable to ordnance rule that allows you to roll 2d6 and choose the highest...so that is something.

Is that rule still in 5th ed? Hunh, so it is. Well, that kind of defeats the idea of a fancy metal that re-arranges itself to avoid taking damage... It can avoid being AV12 against lances, but is still vulnerable to a big shell of HE to the face.

Perhaps we should take the common sense approach and say that counts as a bonus?

Perhaps we should take the common sense approach and say that counts as a bonus? To what do you refer? If you mean the ordnance, then fine. If the vanq shot, then no.

I refer to the ord shot as Im sure the living metal would shlurp to protect itself.

And from now on monoliths don't make strange, alien noises. Not even 'zap' or 'boom' for the weapons. They go: "Shlurp!" That's the sound of ultimate defense.

But would the Paskquisher get its bonus against the shlurp?

He would get the +1 to the AP roll.

Because he doesn't aim at the shlurping metal? or because he is made from awsome?

He aims at the glowing green thing on top. Also, I realized a moment ago (which is why I went back onto this thread) that Pask is the only way for a regular LRBT to kill a 'lith - they can't be glanced to death.

So a Demolisher with Pask is our best option, 4+ rolling 2 dice seems ok to do an internal hit to that heretic bio-machine.

Yeah, the demolisher cannon is probably the best way to do it, if you get yourself a direct hit that is.

bio-machine...?

It is living metal... don't know if I would say "bio-machine," though.
I always imagined it as being like the same stuff as the T-1000 from T2. Maybe I should tape a picture of Robert Patrick to a monolith...

I just thought it was sort of like R2 D2.

Only not so liquidy as liquid metal...

Well lets imagine it goes hard (heh heh) and then shlurps to liquid when required.

I was thinking closer to a gelatin when it laughs at fancy guns. That would also cover why it's still a bit weak against ordnance. You ever stick a firecracker inside jell-o? Good times.

Considering the Monolith breaks all rules, the best option is to not shoot the monolith at all. If you have a demolisher, screw the floating-shifting metal-slurping-rule breaking-bastard, and attack the infantry. The monolith only stays in game as long as their are units on the field. Drop the a demolisher shell on a necron lord, and the zap-zap the troops to win the battle. If the floating bastard is drawing all fire, it doesn't matter if you get lucky and take it out. Because the Lord will give every guard personal Enema, and he is not wearing rubber gloves.

Friend dropped two Monolith's in one game, and I ignored them completely, winning on the phase out. By the end of the game, he barely took out 200pts.

True, the fastest way to beat Necrons is to simply phase them out.
But yeah, the Vanquisher doesn't get the extra penetration dice against the monolith. If you read the entry in the IG codex it says the Vanq gets an additional die when rolling for armor penetration.
The entry in the Necron codex says weapons that receive extra dice for armor penetration do not receive that bonus against the monolith.
