Every game I play against my friend and he fields Nid's so I can say from experiense. KEEP YOUR TANKS AWAY FROM THE TYRANID GENESTEALERS those rending claws hurt.

My only advice with 'Nids is the same advice I use for every army. Rapid Firing Lasguns add up.

I use the "T-formation" against them. But it works just fine against any foe. But it requiers a few details. First of all, your troops have to be as cocky as they can get. Therefore you need Die Hards. The second thing is a CS with at least a Company Standard. But I use the Regimental Standard since my guardsmen see ALOT of CC. =)
The "T-formation" works as follows: Say you have a squad of 6 or 7 men. They are all lined up facing your enemy. Make sure there are less than 1 inch between them. But try to keep them apart anyway. Understand so far? The line should be 5 men strong. Behind that line and exactly 2 inches away you position the sixth man, and 2 inches behind him the seventh. In that way you insure the last man can't be killed i CC. Behind the "T-formation" stands 20-30 soldiers and a Command Section ready to counter-charge. It is important that they can reach the last survivor and that he is within 12" of both the standard and the officer so that he doesn't fail his LD-check after his comrades has been slain.
The "T-formations" goal is to force the enemy to charge the sacrificialunit so you can counter charge and swamp him. If he chooses not to charge, the sacrifical group stands ready with for example a flamer if you are up against Nids. Just make sure that the backup are close enough to be able to counter-charge, but not so close that the enemy could sweep by the sacrificalunit. Make him understand that he has Three choices.
1, Charge and be counter-charge. 2, Don't charge and be flamed and then charged. 3, Don't come near and be shot to pices...
Now, I'm not so good at explaining. So if anyone would like pictures of everything. Just let me know and I'll email a few.
You can also use two sacrificalunits and position the counter-chargeunits between them and slightly behind.

played againest tyranid player yesterday.. i used 5 man stormies as speed bumps and made sure that there was 7 inches between him and me fo when the stormies lost.. yes i wanted them to lose.. once they lost.. well the 3 squads behind them ( 4 grenade luanchers. 3 MLs ) went to town on his genestealers.. as well as the rapid firing lasguns.. 4+ saves.. yes.. but templates galore ( all my blasts hit, and on average hit 4+ models due to poor model placement on his part ) they were cut down pretty quickly.. what once was a 10+ strong unit of genestealers.. now stood one.. which assaulted me.. killed 1 guard, and promptly died.. now if only i had the firepower to take out his 30 guants in a building that was holding the damn objective.. well then i guess it would have been a different game overall.. oh well.. still roasted most of his nids.. and 1 more wound on his warrior and that gaunt squad would have ran at the beginning of the game many times over...

That T formation sounds excellent i must try that some time, though wouldn't it be better to use 5 man remnant squads as speed bumps because then when they kill your small unit and your men are 7" back you could open up on them and slaughter the nids
1 major point is that carnifexs are scary but are mainly psychological They only win their points back when you let them go to town on your tanks and command squads instead tie it up with a conscript platoon even a 'fex can't chew through 20-50 men quickly at all though a unit of hormagaunts could rip through in a turn or turn depending on luck and who charged

Flame Templates, Blast/Ordnance weapons (Mortars/Leman Russes) at the back as a shield and Heavy Bolters/Autocannons as squad upgrades. Oh and make sure to pack your lucky dice, I cannot stress this enough. Luck is very important.

Don't be decieved by the fact that the Nids are so good in HtH. They can shoot too, and often quite devistatingly if you underestimate this. Use heavy bolters or autocannons on the warriors, and as scary as they are, do not make the carnifexes your priority target. They're slow and you'll have time to take them down after you sow down the quick ones. Hellhounds are always fun against any army with numbers, so why not cook up some bug roast?
