necrons you just need to take out the warriors and make them fade.. tau out range them.. or make them move towards you with their support before rolling forward on them.. indirect fire is your ally space marine require plasma guns and deep striking to deal with their assualt troops.. tyranids just need to hammer away with mortors, templates, and blast markers.. aim for the synaspe with MLs. lascannons, snipers, plasma orks, straight template and conscripts to tie up their units eldar - havent played enough games againest them.. but would think that basic out shoot tactics should work with a few deep strike to handle back units/tanks dark eldar - no one plays them here so I am not scared of them IG - just play better than your opponent outgun, out last, out cheese them and you will do fine.. chaos - same as smurfs.. make your army as random as theirs and they wont know what hit them.. thats all I can think of that way..

Necrons... This stupid metal beasts just don't want to stay where it's best for them, unless I hit them with mortars... Mortars and really heavy things are the only option for me to get this things dead, every other weapon and they're fighting again next round. SM and CSM are no big deal for me. Just enough AP2 and 3 weapons and they don't know what happend to them. PS. for dice anomalies: Also termis and dreads are no big deal. 10 Guardsmen already killed a BT assault terminator squad in CC and 10 Stormtroopers finished of 3 Grey Knight Dreadnaughts in CC...

I'd have to say Chaos, again randomness in tournaments but also due to my IG army is based around making the enemy take as many morale rolls as possible... And those damn chaos either get to re-roll or ignore it completely!
However easiest I find it Chaos as well, if the enemy has a demon heavy army with fire support from a Defiler then bye bye demons and bye bye fire support by the 3rd turn.
Damn chaos being so chaotic... Hehe

I try to use snipers whenever I can, light infantry sometimes, Commissars with powerfists. Try to outgun the smurfs.

I havent played a 40k game yet but i am led to believe that the tau are not as cheep as the IG points wise, so if u play an infantry heavy they shouldnt be that hard to be? And how hard are the Necrons to beat because when i get a 500 pt army painted they would probably be the first things i face.

necrons suck pretty bad. they're basically space marines that self repair if wounded and killed on a 4+ or something rediculous.

The Tau can be very tough, but there are ways to beat them. As for the Tau out-manuvering Guard... neither one has anything particualrly fast, except for the Pirahna and Rough Riders. And in my experience, Tau armies don't like to move unless they have to. Are they really out-manuvering us or are we just trying to beat them at their own game?
As for the toughest army to beat, I think it's a tie between Chaos and Necrons for me. The "we'll be back rule" makes Necrons kinda ridiculous. I don't think it helps that the only Chaos player I've really faced uses this insane Uber Lord every freakin' game.

Iron Warriors are tough and I thought of getting some when I started playing. But I didn't do it when I saw that many IW players lost most of their friends. These guys are just unfair in friendly games, but great for serious games like tournaments ;D

I would tend to say “all of the above” except maybe Orks. It really depends on the type of game and opponent, as you get a lot of cover saves from cities of death etc…
The IG is one of those rare armies that your opponent expects to win against which makes the victory oh so much sweeter and their loss oh so much bitterer. A crowning achievement of mine was getting out a couple of lucky rolls and wiping out a small marine squad (armed up to the nines) with my bunch of veteran shotguns and meltguns supported by a measly powerfist. It’s these rare circumstances that make the IG or orks worth playing.
IG look cool on paper but don’t have an outstanding advantage in any area that some other army makes their own. You might have the best looking army in the imperium but statistically and fluff wise their just cannon fodder.

Technically 2 Anti-Tank Support Squads with Lascannons 1 Lascannon in your HQ 12 Sentinals armed with LasCannons 1 Vet Squad with Lascannon 10 Infantry Sqauds all with Lascannons Armoured fist Squad with Lascannon Plus Lascannons on your Russe's
Its offical, Guard can field more Lascannons than any IW Army
Edit: Had to remove a t from can, got a plaster on my finger and hit it by mistake, my bad people.

Never said I needed them haha, just said I had 'em. Sucks fighting Nids though... havent done that yet but I can imagine... so far all my big battles been agasint an Ork with lot 'o vehicles, and a Necron player.... that was interesting... 5 squads of warriors, and 2 squads of destroyers, 1 lord, and the Nightbringer... not techincally legal but I still played him.. the lascannons were helpful
