A long time ago, I posted a chapter somewhere (frak if I know where), whose name and fluff I forgot with the exception of the fact that they were a Death Guard descended chapter, and their color scheme. That was like, back when fourth edition was released I think, so a long time ago...
The fluff debate thread amused me enough that I decided to recreate it, suitable for fifth edition (the fourth edition variation used a lot of traits which aren't available anymore). So, here goes.
Adeptus Astartes: The Death Hawks Chapter
During the Great Crusade, some of the geneseed for the Death Guard chapter managed to escape unharmed. How exactly this is, is unknown-- perhaps a member of the Death Guard escaped uncorrupted, or perhaps it was harvested from the corpses of uncorrupted Death Guard members. Regardless of how, however, shortly after the formation of the Inquisition, this gene-seed was ordered to be put to use, slowly building up a chapter of Astartes and watching them with extreme care and prejudice to make sure that they were not corrupted.
When the chapter reached 100 members in late M33, they were given the option to choose a name and the right to take missions in the Emperor's name, being judged worthy of being a fully fledged chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. Filled with pride, the chapter quietly debated amongst themselves for a year before coming up with the name "Deathhawks".
Explaining the name to the Inquisition, the young Chapter Master stated that they could never deny their link to the traitorous Death Guard, but at the same time they were not the same as that heretical legion. Indeed, their greatest desire was to hunt them down and eliminate them, to remove all of their tainted kind from the annals of history and all existance-- and so they chose the name of a breed of bird of prey from Holy Terra, signifying their right to hunt down their traitorous ancesters.
Satisfied, the Inquisition left them to their devices and merely monitored them. Since then, the chapter has claimed an Imperial world known as Diecea IV (pronounced Dye-ee-see-uh), and grown to the full compliment of 1000 members. Diecea is a harsh, cold, and somewhat desolate world where only the stout and durable survive, and is uncomfortably close to a small Ork kingdom in a nearby system.
Because of the constant threat of the Orks, the Death Hawks have worked constantly with the Guard and PDF elements of the world, and developed tactics to work alongside them-- tactics which brought the Death Hawks chapter great glory and fame in subsequent crusade attempts to cleanse the neighboring Ork territories.
Chapter Organization
All companies have assorted vehicles and transports as per standard organization. Same with Armoury, Librarius, and Headquarters personnel.
A couple final notes: Yes, I know devastators aren't good in game. But since I enver, ever intend to actually make the chapter anyway, that's slightly irrelevant to me at the moment . I also probably won't be developing this much, as I don't really care too much about it. It was just a mental excercize, and an amusingly easy one to perform.
