use die hards with your squads to take the initiative and assault an enemy with 1 squad after unloading with your entire army into the enemy squad - chances are your squad will take a beating but hold due to the die hards doctrine allowing them to ignore outnumbered modifiers. be sure to have an officer with iron discipline nearby for morale purposes. in the enemies turn instead of being able to charge and butcher your line, they'll be stuck finishing off your beaten up squad. come your turn the enemy squad is stalled infront of your main lines and you can open fire on them all over again *cackle* then just throw another squad w/ die hards at them that is strong enough to survive 1 round of melee combat w/ the enemy. when the enemy is whittled down enough, then just charge in with the masses of guardsmen you have and finish them off.
hope this helps!

ah yes. along side my IG, the mighty penguins of Valhalla will destroy the mighty GW Employee that was my first ever opponent. Naturally I got crushed, he kept me pinned in a building, keeping my movment to a minimum. I actually put up a brutal defence, kept his Space Wolves at bay, and destroyed (forgot what its name is, its a Fast attack for SM) with a lone grenade launcher, i know someone whos getting the Honorifica Imperialus . anyway, he made it too the building, drove me out, killing my Command Squad . and all hell broke loose, and I lost horribly lawl.-Shanks

sounds like the building was the only terrain it's hard when you're pinned and have no units that can survive in the open. I like to have some grenadier/kasrkin type units for moving aggressively because we'll all have to leave the bushes/rubble sometime or other and having some units geared to do that is a good thing. no shame losing to a GW employee, they can come with some brutality that makes cheese look tame and their lists are simply like the good ol '100 space marines' type lists hehe. I played this GW employee early on in my IG career this one time before I knew the value of cover and he had noise marines, some assault 3 36" range ap4 death on like EVERY SINGLE MODEL. it was such a brutal massacre. same dude came at me with the living wave of 100 space marines one of the next times I played him - I just quit playing the dude after that nice thing is there's always a ton of gamers to be found and alot of them do the whole themed army thing so you'll find some players are more apt to use non-maximized/advantageous lists most the time.

Advantage Of Losing To GW Employee's Is If your New, They'll Go Over What Mistakes You May Have Made and Help You work On tactics to Help you Out ... thats What They Do at the Battle Bunker At least ...

heh you got smoked then did you have sharpshooters? that doctrine has done so much for the shooting performance of my army and since I shoot alot, it's pretty much always a good thing to buff my shooting.

you'll find doctrines provide quite a considerable edge. the ability to have a 4+ armor save, or +1 to your cover saves is really great - the ability to ignore being outnumbered in melee - it's goodstuff. the price you pay is that all the troops on the restricted troop list become restricted the instant you take a doctrine, then you have to buy them back at the cost of 1 doctrine point per entry on the list
