Hey guys. I'm getting a few DE minis dirt cheap (a Raider and 8 Warriors for $20 CDN, whee!), so I'm wondering where I should go from there for a decent 1000 pt list.
Obviously I need to pick up the codex, but what should I be looking to pick up to give myself a decent mobile (I guess you could say mechanized, though I don't consider DE to be mechanized at all) that won't be wiped off the board by turn 2.

You'll probably get wiped out a few times, just accept that right from the get go and you'll probably do alright.
Warrior squads are the backbone of my DE army, they can take up to 2 heavy weapons and two special weapons per squad of 10-20. double back the dark lances and pack them in cover, take lots. Target armor, especially transports and cripple the enemy.
Raiders, take lots of raiders, they will get destroyed. Never advance in the open, never rush them into combat, use terrain and speed as cover to maneuver to where you need to be and once you are in position devote everything you have on the attack.
My raiders usually carry wyches, wyches are useless on foot and will die, Wyches in a raider at least have some protection, keep them safe until the time is right to attack then disembark out of the open topped transport and assault right away, tool up the succubus with an agonizer and combat drugs and she'll will be able to chew through any opponent(and don't forget that wyches get a invulnerable save in CC, use them to tie up and isolate threats.
Your Archon is the star of the show. He is a monster, combat drugs, agonizer, shadow field.(the agonizer can be traded for a punisher or a power weapon depending on your usual opponent, I take agonizers because they wound everything on a +4, even monstrous creatures...but they are just as handy as a power weapon against t3 opponents.) I take Incubi because they are hard as nails as can dish out a beating, just remember that you lose fleet of foot for your Archon if you take them, give them a raider, use your other raiders to keep the Archon covered.
I've used reavers and haemonculi as well but haven't have a whole lot of luck with them just yet. reavers are wyches on jetbikes, use them in a smilier way, and the haemonculi make alright leaders for warrior squads tooled up with splinter cannons for moving up and capturing objectives.
heavy support, Ravagers are a no brainer...three lances or one lance and two disintegrators, these things lay down a lot of firepower.
I've got a talos too...but I haven't used it...stateline makes me think wraithlord...weapons make me thing wraithlord on crack, and not the good stuff neither.
Remember, sneaky bastard is the name of the game, your wits are your best weapon, luck is second, firepower is third.
Good luck!
if the dice gods are on your side you can not lose, if the dice fail you, you will burn...beware, Slaanesh is waiting and your soul is forfeit.
Welcome to Commorragh.

Thanks Ymmot. A lot of what you've said I've picked up from lurking other forums. Losing is no problem for me really. I actually haven't played a game since 3rd Ed. so...
Is a list 3 Warrior squads in Raiders backed up Jetbikes with an Archon on a bike, and a pair of Ravagers a feasible list? I ran across something similar while researching.

Yes, I have also read a few tatica that highly recommend a archon on a jet bike, haven't gone that way myself but I can see how it would be deadly, that oughta work out just fine.

Unfortunately, mandrakes are pure lose. Maybe even more than the LR Punisher... Which is a shame, because the idea behind them is so good.

Mandrakes, yeah...pretty much useless, they're just overpriced warriors with 2 hand weapons and weird deployment...they need a price cut and at least , maybe rending...
and change the weird deployment rules for the abilty to outflank!(from any tabel edge!!)
that'd be much better.

I hadn't really considered Mandrakes actually. Are Scourges useful at all? I like them from a fluffy point of view, but would my points (and money for that matter) be better spent elsewhere?

Well, yes, they're useful. Should you use them over warriors? No.
Technically, Mandrakes would be entire squads of Marbo.
The only things any DE player should worry about are: warriors, wyches, archon and retinue. Everything else is for fine tuning. Things you should never take are: mandrakes, scourges, hellions. The rest... take at your own risk. Oh, and ravagers are good stuff.

Mandrakes are probably my least favourite unit in the game.
Really ElegaicRequiem? I knew the Dark Eldar were some super poopers, but all that?

Super poopers?
Uh...
No.
Also, I do not agree that Mandrakes should be squads of Marbo...Marbo is the one man army, mandrakes are just really good ambush troops.
The Decapatator might be a match though.

I meant as in the He's behind you meathod of getting on the field. Not their combat ability versus everything they see. Although they need to be ridiculous, as after all, they are the ultimate sneaky cut-throats who prey on their own kind for fun. Their own kind being DE, too...

Actually that is pretty true, having them just pop in out of nowhere would be pretty good.
