Okay I have a full platoon of cadian troopers and it drives me crazy setting up and moving all my models that when I play in a times event I am always behind on turns. To fix this I have made some movement trays for my cadians. They are based of the WH Fantasy trays. I have glued a small washer to the bottom of each of my 10 man squads and put a magnet sheet on the bottom of the base. The models stay in the tray and they are easier to take out and store. What do you guys think of this? What do you do to make it easier for setup and moving over 100 models?

sounds like a really pro-active idea for making your army more friendly for venues like tournaments and hardcore game nights with the local gaming club etc. Kinda hard to deal with terrain with 40k since it tends to be a bit more terrain heavy where your formations will shift alot - tell us how it goes, I for one would be interested in hearing about how it pans out!

How do you go about spacing your men out? If you keep them all together like in WHFB then your a good target for blast marker weapons etc.

I supose if you have close order drill, that won't be a problem but otherwise you could make the tray bigger and use the ability to space your models out in the tray and only have to take them out when you move on to terrain, or into assault etc.
Just an idea.

would be neat if it worked easily with terrain but dont have an easy solution to accomodating terrain unfortunatley.

The trays for great! I use them mainly for set up. If I can stand still because there is no pie plate love, then I am a happy camper. If there is pie plate love then I set up differently. I play 2 full platoons and it allows me to set up 10 squads instead of 100 men!

I tend not to move my units until the enemy is close, or in the Tau's case, moving within Lasgun range. Not really difficult

i used to use cardboard movement sheets back when i played orks.. only bacause i also fielded 130+ orks because all the games we played were 1700 or more pts a side.. made the game go faster.. but still was a pain to get them all set up at the beginning..
though the magnet idea i keep hearing.. so i might need to look into it more as well..
cheers

Also, Gale Force 9 has movement trays for 40k, set up with a nice spacing between models. looks good for display, storage, or actual game use. With slight conversion, it can work with home-made or GF9 magnetic bases. check them out at GF9.com. They've also got some great templates, counters, and stuff (especially the exploded vehicle token... looks like fire). Trust me, it's good mojo.
