Hey there, I'm looking forward to converting some vet squads, but I'm wondering what they are good for in the game. What sort of roles are they used for, at a first glance it seems like they are just more expensive guardsmen with a better Ballistic skill.
Thanks!

I use their better BS by taking 3 Grenade Launchers and a Missile Launcher.

I'm planning on doing something like that, although I usually give them a chimera to cruise about in. Maybe if I can find another steel legion box I'll get another amoured fist.

regular guardsmen are the IGs bested 'well rounded' unit that is geared toward being capable of doing anything. veteran squads are made in the same spirit, but are capable of toting far more 'tools of the trade' and to add to the picture, they know how to use em.
it is my humble opinion (speaking from a place of theory only) that, like regular guard squads, veteran squads should be given all the options. one thing that shouldn't be overlooked is the fact that a veteran squad mixed into your main infantry line is actually capable of stopping an enemy assault unit rolling thru your lines. two words: hidden powerfist!!! how many times do we raise our eyes to the heavens and pray for a decent counterassault unit - if only!!, right? well these guys are it in my book. in my version of theoryhammer, veterans are to be deployed in the middle of your battle line where they can react to any assaults from the enemy while retaining a solid ability to make their firepower pay off.
