So I am looking to make some purchases for a new Space Wolf Army, but there is so much neatness, I'm not sure exactly where to start. I've got a budget of around 300 dollars to spend on fun, silly WH40k goodness (with a 25 percent discount.) Any suggestions on where I should begin?
Looking through my old things and a couple pieces I snagged from my brother- I already have one Land Raider (It is Chaos, so I need to do some work on it) 4 Drop pods, and 10 Rocket Launcher SMs that I plan on turning in to Long Fangs. Aaaaand that is all! ;D

Okay...
Really, it depends on how you want to make this army. The great thing about Space Wolves is that each and every component of their list is effective no matter what it is in combination with. So...uh...
Blood Claws and Grey Hunters are both reccomended, because Blood Claws are an effective assault force and Grey Hunters are useful. Long Fangs will always be a good idea, drop-pod spam SW forces are cheese and heresy and an utterly pointless endeavour (if you play that, just play regular SM's). Really, though, it's up to you.

Makarova's guide to Space Wolves and other things:
- Don't use special characters, especially not with Space Wolves as they're insanely powerful, boring, lame, sterile and boring and lame and anti-awesome. And everyone else uses them.
- Don't take very effective wargear combos that everyone else takes. Because that's anti-awesome, boring and lame.
Remember, bad is good! Or at least awesome. Try playing an original army to some extent, you'll feel better about it in the long run.

Yes, that is all well and good but don't let anybody tell you what is wrong and what you shouldn't take...take what you like and what feels right to you.
It is your army...go for your gut instincts first, try to imagine how you want them to behave on the tabletop and follow that theme.
Drop pods are both very fluffy and pretty effective(Space Marines and Droppods go together like Aircav and Valkyries.), if you've already got 4 of them then you might as well put them to good use.
Dreadnoughts in drop pods are great, take two and they'll both land on the first turn(if you take all 4 that is) with the other two take a few squads of Grey hunters and use them to capture objectives. Wolf Guard Terminators would be a good choice to stick in the land raider...add a few rhinos and a few more grey hunters and you'll be set!
as far as HQ goes...Space Wolves get 4 of them...and I know you like special characters, but they've also got some neat regular guys too.
runepriests make librarians look silly...wolfpriests makes chaplains into a joke.
I'm not too into blood claws because of their lower stats but they are pretty good assault troops...lots of attacks, but must assault whenever possible unless a wolf guard is attached to the squad.

I'd suggest a few units of Grey Hunters. Don't bother with Blood Claws unless you're intending on sticking a load of them in a land raider crusader. I'd also recommend a Rune Priest or two, Wolf Scouts and maybe some Wolf Guard terminators to fill that land raider with .

Yes, Wolf Scouts are awesome, SMurf scoutson roids...they can appear on any table edge! (add a Wolf Guard Battle Leader with Saga of the Hunter and you have an outflanking HQ unit!)

Okay, Lets take this one step at the time. Firstly, you say that you are going to use drop pods, then I recommend playing Ragnar's company as he is the one specialising in drop pod assaults (Fluffy=Good). I suggest that you take one Wolf Guard pack of three and send each one to accompany one of three, 9 man Blood Claw packs in drop pods. I would also fill the last drop pod with Grey Hunters, armed with two melta guns or flamers. Now the Long Fangs I would equip half of them with anti-infantry weapons and the other half with anti-tank weapons. Since I see 10 missile launchers you could just give those to everybody Now if you decide to play Ragnars company I suggest that you get him, other wise make your own. Or you could use a Wolf Guard Battle Leader. I prefer to arm these guys with frost weapons, runic armour and a plasma pistol, adding both the wolf tail talisman and the wolftooth necklace if I have the points to spare. The first thing I would get is a couple of the standard Space Wolves box. Hope I helped

If you have that many missile launcher guys just stick with them for long fangs.
My Long Fangs have 7. 5 Long Fangs with MLs and a Wolf Guard Terminator with a Cyclone Missile Launcher, those can kill anything! Tanks, elite infantry and hordes (frag mode). Put them with Logan in a Drop Pod and you get some first turn deliciousness!
I love your idea for using the rocket guys for Long Fangs.

The SW box is a bit too wolfy wolfy. That's a good thing, but I recommend mixing it with tactical boxes to tone it down a bit. Watch out for the wolfy helmet. It bites.
P.s. The Blood Angels are getting a Valkyrie style transporter called the Tantalus, with twin ass cannons on the front.

I picked up 3 more Space Wolf Pack boxes (giving me 4 total, 40 Wolfys!) and a box of Wolf Termies!
I was looking through the codex and was considering a couple Rhinos, a rune priest or two, a wolf priest and maybe a Predator?
I'd also like to pick up a box of Goblin Wolf Riders, brush the gobos aside and use the 10 lil' wolfys for fenrisians!
Suggestions?

I rather like whirlwinds...hardly any one expects youto bring out a whirlwind, and that big blast template goes as much damage to guardsmen and the like as landing a battle cannon on their heads.
all SMurf tanks are great big fire magnets...but I guess having a land raider in there will pulll some fire away from things like predators and whirlwinds.
Fenrisian wolves eh? Alright...but you gotta put the spare goblins on SM scout bikes, how cool would that be? Ey?

Fenrisian wolves eh? MISTER Rocketman, Fenrisian wolves are le'awesomesauce and are also kind of cute! They can soak wounds, grant extra attacks and like the "talk" of certain TV personalities- they are cheap!
I generally am not a fan of Tanks with SMs, but the Predator with autocannons and Heavy bolters is a bargain for the price and all the shots it can send down. Still, long fangs just might simply be fluffier and better! =P
Never played with a Whirlwind! They DO look cool!

Can't argue with the cheapness of a predator with autocannons and heavy bolters...all for under 100 points I do believe, I've got one for my chaos army and it seems to do alright for itself.
My Guard army fears and respects my friend''s whirlwind...it is always the first thing to go when the valk comes rolling in from reserve.

Do...Do I need more drop pods? How many is too many? 0_0
I've been reading up on the fluff behind Ragnar and it seems his boys all deploy via drop pod. Is it a viable option? It is nice and fluffy! Like a bunny! A bunny who will rend you on 6s..

Depends on the list size, and what you plan on taking. 1-3 probably wouldn't be bad for 2k. What you need to thin about is how most of your troops are getting to the enemy.D you want to DP Assault with most, then have tanks and Rhinos harassing, or run Rhino Heavy, backed up by tanks with harassers in DPs?
As for Whirlwinds, they are one of the three tanks I am genuinely afraid of in 40k, but that's because, well, I play IG.
*Edit* Answered my question while asking it. The thought of an All DP army makes me cringe a bit, but thats just me. I WOULD council at least some units, like Preds or Longfangs, to cherry pick some big nasties for when you do arrive, but all DP is certainly viable. You just need a lot of luck to get what you need, where you need it, when you need it.

Take those space wolfs that ride space wolfs I here if you do you win instantly because the other player laughs themselves to death. You might get charged with man slaughter after wards.

Space Wolves should not use Drop Pods. Space Wolves are patholigically distrustful of technology in general and flying in particular.
Also, I find Drop Pod lists so predictably boring. Okay, using one or two is fine, but Drop-Pod your army and I will treat you like a powergamer and dismember your list without any kind of mercy.
My advice? Blood Claws, Grey Hunters in Rhinos and Drop Pods, the odd wolfguard here and there to keep everyone in line, and some nice ancillary units.

So, taking in to account my 4 Drop Pods and 1 Land Raider- it might be best to invest in, say, 2 Rhinos instead of 2 more Drop Pods?

Space Wolves should not use Drop Pods. Space Wolves are patholigically distrustful of technology in general and flying in particular. They don't like teleporters is all...Drop Pods are A-Ok...nothing too technologically sophisticated about falling from space in a adamantium coffin. 4 is a good number for pods because of the drop pod assault rule...rhinos are good because you probably want something on the table before all of your pods come in.

Agreed. Pods are great for allowing you to keep up a rain of blows against your opponent, but you want something else for the troops who will be zipping around, taking objectives, and beating up enemy troop choices and taking their lunch money.
