A little question mates: if I add a commissar to a ST squad, and want the squad to deep strike. Do the commissar benefit from the deep strike?? Knwing that I do use the doctrine: droptroops? Thanks a lot!

I had the same problem when i first started playing the game.I would feild a commissar and tool up my officer for CC stuff. One squad would start to break and i would pray using my vox would work and i would roll a 11 or something like that.BOOM my Colonel would be lying ther ein a pool of his own blood and waste materials and my Commissar would be striding arrogantly over to the vox guy telling that squad to stay put. I didnt know that the HSO was killed if a unit faild a Ld test over the Vox. If so would a trademark item help?

a HSO isn't removed as a casualty if a unit using his leadership value to make a leadership test of their own fails it. it counts as the unit failing its leadership roll, not the heroic senior officer. trademark items help if close combat is expected more than anything else in regards to HSOs and commissars.

no sweat! the new commissar models coming down the pipes for us look SWEET! if you haven't spied the pics, I've got em posted in the rumors section under the topic 'new IG models' or somesuch. finally nice commissar figs!! I know for one that it's going to see their inclusion into my army - I've been considering them more and more for their hidden powerfist goodness. my thought is this: HSO w/ command squad sanctioned psyker w/ honorifica mundanis commissar w/ powerfist that's what 12 wounds before the powerfist goes? it may not look like a big unit on the table but there are a ton of extra wounds in the characters in the squad which can, in itself, be an advantage to an opponent who expects the squad to go splat and fold up. it also provides a huge opportunity to sink more points into further kitting out the squad in a multitude of ways. I hope they never rewrite and simplify the guard codex - here's to hoping IG becomes the new Orcs as far as codex revisions go!!! (it's been like...a decade.. since the orcs had a new codex )

Unless your playing a large scale match, commissars are a waste of points. A much cheaper stronger investment is a master vox caster in a command squad which lets you use the leadership of your senior officer for your entire army. There fun though. Whats even cheaper is just not taking any vox or commissars at all. I like to keep it cheap.

Yeah, but commissars are needed for fluff, and another officer is always fun, especially if that officer has a power fist and a power book!

cheap guardsmen work, but I've typically lost vs. IG armies with more expensive base troops if they are used well (like sit and shoot armies with cameleoline - they kill me every time cuz they're typically overloaded with heavy weapons, and really hard to dig out of their cover without getting them into melee). it's all about your strategy of play, but I really like the fact that with cheap troops I can have a full well rounded army at 2500pts. I get a battle line of regular IG troops supported by a conscript platoon hanging back behind a hill, a solid firebase or two of clustered heavy weapon squads, a sentinel or two adding that 'this company has recon assets' feel with a pair of chimerae full of grenadiers escorted by a hellhound for the offensive strikeforce element and I still have points for a basilisk and pair of russes to add in the mandatory IG artillery and tank presence. all that in 2500pts means I get to field everything I want when other people are still having to pick and choose what to bring or leave. it's nice to be able to field my whole IG company in a regular game of 40k. cheap troops do that. HOWEVER this topic is about commissars, I realize (a little late, but hey..), and not about cheap IG infantry so in an effort to keep it on topic, I've been thinking about using my bonesaw to chop up the commissar with the raised powerfist arm and take some greenstuff to pin it to one of the other, more lean and mean combat style bodies, though the support nature of my command squad makes me wonder if I should just use the commissar as he is, all reading from the book holding his powerfist aloft...that'll make a great addition to my command squad!!!! I'm so looking forward to having them and the baneblade (which, dangit, I told my mom she could get me for christmas, so now I have to wait till then to actually get!!!). I'm thinking of getting a couple of those Cadian 8th army carriers too, since my main officer started in the cadian 8th and I've been thinking of recalling his company into the 8th for a while now... I'm gonna stop before I drift offtopic too much more

Ah, I heard the arms on the powerfist and chargey guy are interchangable. So you can have him holding either another power weapon or chainsword instead of the book, thats just what I've been told. Havent gotten the chance to go to GW yet.

that'd be tight, cuz doing a weaponswap of the hand would be a simple matter and then bam - he's got a laspistol or boltpistol and I'm groovin'

the book is unknown. however in the same issue of white dwarf on the other side of the page it shows the the commissar that is charging forth can switch his chainblade with a power weapon.

LoL, so I'm not the only one who had that idea? That baneblade captain would make one hell of a commissar.

pishaw Gaunt is king of the commissars. However I have both the new commissars and they arms seem to be interchangeable. I'm going to see if the dude can read his book on the run.(not actually going to glue it that would look wierd)

does gaunt have a force field that could turn a lascannon into a lasgun? does he have the evil eye of death? does he go orky every know and then? no i think not.
heck does gaunt even have his own baneblade?
if the answer to any of the above is no then gaunt is not the king of commissars

Yarrick has the "Fortress of Arrogance" as his command Baneblade and he has a Forcefield that can make a Lascannon into a Lasgun (ok a Lagun with a pretty good AP value).
While Gaunt has, erm nothing really good, except that he is much cooler than Yarrick
