So here it is guys, the voting thread for the first (and hopefully not the only!) Golden Guardsman painting competition! Ok, waffling aside. I'll get onto it. These photos have been selected by myself where I have had the choice from multiple photos. All have been cropped and realigned where needed, also some have been edited to increase brightness. Other than that, thats what you get. Raw naked painting talent. Most of these, however, have had nothing done to them whatsoever. I was just doing that for 'legal clarification'. Also, you will get one vote and one vote only (although you have exactly 7 days to change your mind). After that voting will lock and the winner will be revealed! I love suspense Obviously this primarily about painting, although most have been converted and based to a very high standard too, so you can bear this in mind if your stuck between one or two models. Who doesn't like nice conversions or bases? And, I have to say it, please don't vote for yourself, it's unsporting And don't reveal who you voted for in any comments you leave! And please only positive contributions or feedback, a lot of effort has gone in to these minis. Although to be quite honest i'm not sure where you could find fault in most of these! So without further ado, the entries! (in no particular order) Entry 1Entry 2Entry 3Entry 4Entry 5Entry 6Entry 7Entry 8Entry 9Entry 10Entry 11Entry 12

Well, some truly impressive entries - just as I was expecting/hoping... An interesting additional bonus to this little competition of 3ff3ct's is the range of new/different regiments, all collected in a single place for ease of comparison and viewing - maybe this could lead to a few new Guard armies being posted, with these mdoels as the "prototype" or "signature" vision of the regiment... I know 3ff3ct has said not to reveal who we are voting for, but I felt I had to leave some complimental comments on a few of my personal favorites (these are in no way intended to sway votes! just passing on compliments where I think they are due): - The effective way that the Guardsman in entry 2 manages to mix both renaissance and 40k guardsman successfully, is a real inspiration for anyone wanting to do a Guard army of this type.
- Managing toget a crisp white colour over the whole coat of the Guardsman in entry 4 - anyone whose tried something similar to this will know how awkward white can be to paint...
- Painting playing card symbols on such a small area as the back armour of entry 6 must have taken a really steady hand and a decent amount of patience.
- The smoothly blended tones of the cloth for entry 10 was an obvious success, and this is married with a really well detailed face - especially the eyes.
3ff3ct - I think this competition has already been a success! How many do you think you might run each year?

I know 3ff3ct has said not to reveal who we are voting for, but I felt I had to leave some complimental comments on a few of my personal favorites (these are in no way intended to sway votes! just passing on compliments where I think they are due): - I love the colours on #2. The blue is a really nice contrast to the browns
- Ditto about the steady hand for #6!
- Loving the lasgun with the freehanded eagle on #8. The scar is cracking, too.
- The blending on #10 is awesome.
- #12 has a lot of character! Like the checkered shoulder pattern, too.
Good luck to all!

I really don't know which one to vote for. When I say that I don't mind who wins, I really mean it, there are so many good models!
As a side-thought, will we be declaring the names of people behind each entry afterwards, because there are way too many good ones to give a prize to!

This was an extremely hard decision. I have been sitting here for 20 minutes plus critiquing every single one. There were some fantastic conversions too. But In the end, I had to chose for the one that showd the greatest level of techniques used and how effective they turned out.
Everyone should be proud though. They are all excellent.

Vote placed! And no, I didn't vote for my own entry. This one was really difficult for me to decide. I've also been scrolling up and down for the past 20+ minutes trying to decide. I don't think I've ever seen an online competition that was so difficult to decide on. In the end I went with the mini that I thought had most character. Good luck to everyone! Looking forward to the results!

Wow, just... wow. Feeling kind of embarrassed that I entered now! These are all so characterful and amazing! I've got a favourite, but Christ was it a choice and a half. And I think it's quite funny how well you can identify different forumites by their painting style!

Ah well, I managed to get my choice down to two - then used your advice and considered the bases aswell as the painting. Just about tipped it, but it was very close!

I managed to vote too. Hard choice between two of them, but the winner won by "It's a frakking ***********, that's just awesome!".

I am going to wait a couple of days before I vote. This way I will know which one sticks in my head the longest, that is the one that I will vote for.

Vote submitted, It was a very Very VERY difficult choice but in the end there was one that stood out the most. I want to congratulate all of my fellow participants, the painting is absolutely superb! 3ff3ct- any idea as to what the next competition (at least I hope there's another one ) is going to be so us slow painters can get a head start ;D

Let's just say I'd be on the sidelines if a Titan-painting contest was on.
