Hello all, been lurking for a while on this forum and decided to bite the bullet and show some of my IG army that has been in the making for near on seventeen years with a few breaks from the hobby. It is based mainly on the old pattern metal Cadians from 2nd edition and is themed on a Cadian armoured battlegroup, the XXIV (Guards) Tank Grenadier Regiment. First up is King Russ, a converted Leman Russ Vanquisher. Work in progress, converted Leman Russ Conqueror fast tanks from kit bashed Chimera and Leman Russ hulls bought off ebay. Awaiting some turrets from FW to complete the Troop. Tracks need to be completed as well as weathering. Leman Russ Destroyer November One Zero another FW conversion. Old style support weapon platforms FW tarantula, rapier laser destroyer and thudd gun. Commissar in rubble. Converted rough riders. Converted Bombard, made from a Chimera chassis, plastic card and a cotton reel for the barrel. Echo Battery, Basilisk self propelled artillery.

That's a heck of a nice pile of tanks you have there!
I'm surprised how well the cotton reel worked for the bombard - looks really effective. Any chance of some shots of your infantry? It would be a nice treat to see some of those old cadian models.

As reqeasted, old pattern Cadian infantry. The Colonel and the Regimental Colours. The standard on the left is based broadly off the John Blanche painting of the Necromundan 9th. Heavy stubber squad, converted from standing cadian riflemen and the Escher heavy stubber. Veteran assault squad, again made from a limited number of cadian poses with chain swords pin in place. I liked the Col Shaefer model so much, he became the Vet Sgt. Converted Cadians, the range was quite limited in the number of poses which meant many a hour was spent hacking bits of metal about to get some variety into the platoons. Assault Pioneers, armed with melta bombs, demolition charges, shotguns, grenades and flamers. Heavy flamer taken from the Catchan heavy flamer blister and some converted Mordians with a heavy bolter dressed up to somthing to resemble vickers gun. AT Missile teams posed amongst rubble. Hoped you like them, plenty more of those to photograph! ;D

Absolutely amazing stuff, sir. You are a legend. It's a shame they stopped the old cadian metal range, they were classy models. Nice bases as well. Are they wooden or mdf?
Greetings from NW.

Thank you very much Sir! The camera doesnt do them justice to be honest, however when these were painted I had not gotten my flesh washes right either. I have a hoard left of the old minis, which are slowly running out. The bases are a mix of washers (I prefer the weight), thin titan bases and plastic card.

Some more infantry pics. Snipers with the old SM scout model, a conversion from the SM scout sprue and plastic Cadian sprue, Catchan sniper and the sniper from the Last Chancers box set. Detail of the SM scout sniper cloak in splinter camo. Rogue Trader IG infantry that have been updated, these were the very first IG that I got hold of back in 1993. Now used as a Veteran infantry squad. 2nd Edition Cadian infantry squad, most of the platoons look like this. Command squad characters, with an old RT Colonel used as a Captain. The Soldier on the left has a bugle. Armoured Fist Squad, mounted in Bravo Two One. The plates are from the old Hellhound. Plastic Cadians with 2nd Ed Cadian heads, I didn't like the new plastics when they came out so did a few head swaps to blend them in. Plastic Cadians, have now gotten used to the bucket type helmets. Mortar Squad with attached Forward Observation Officer team which I normally use as Regimental Advisors with the Company Command Squad. Mechanics based on IG, I used these instead of Techpriests and servitors, they fit the theme of the army so much better. Gaunt and female Commissar.

The only thing I don't like are the bases, I have a dislike of non-GW bases. The rest of the force is fantastic! Your mix of ranges worked really well with the paint scheme you chose.

It's all so... nostalgic... *sniff sniff* Wonderful. Simply wonderful. I almost forget how different the old Cadian metal models were, then I get a glimpse of them somewhere (like here) and suddenly I remember them - and hate the new ones It's a shame they stopped the old cadian metal range, they were classy models. A crying terrible shame... quite possibly Heresy even, considering they still have some of the metal Catachans...

So the Guard would still be multipart plastic kits, but with a design similar to the old models.

Not a bad looking force there. Would be nice to see them in formation on the board.

Thank you for your kind comments. I laid the whole lot out to today, here are the photographs. Tank Company with Vanquisher in the lead. The rear troop are Demolisher armed tanks. There is a good amount of variation in weapon fits amongst the Company. Specialised Self Propelled Artillery, WIP Manticore, Hydra, Griffon and Bombard. Basilisk and Earthshaker artillery. Battle Group commander and command team. Special Characters, I admit it as well as tanks, I like Commissars! On the left are preachers and the the right my counts as for servitors and enginseers. Fast Attack comprised of rough riders, hellhound, salamander. The the right are WIP Conquerer fast tanks. To the front are veteran infantry and storm troopers. Infantry company, two platoons of dismounted infantry two platoons of mechanised armoured fist. Close up of the armoured fist platoons. Support weapon company, including devestator squad, mortart platoon, auto cannons, heavy stubbers and assualt pioneers. Dismounted tank crew to the front. Lightning ground attack. Banblade, this was a kit bash from tiger tank tracks and wheel sets, some FW turrets and plastic card. I have a new plastic one in WIP stage at the moment.

These are a mix of the rear of the old Leman Russ turret ring and engine deck with the old chimera glacis and hull sides. It makes life difficult having to deconstruct tanks bought off ebay in order to make these. Still I do like the ease of construction of the new versions. And on the plus side I have enough componants to make wheeled APCs based off the Chimera fighting compartment for three squads, almost mechanising another platoon.

Ohhh wow. So many old miniatures. After seeing all this, I am tempted to fish out all my old WhiteDwars and abandon myself to all the nostalgic The old Leman, you could have at its wheels and convert to your hearts desire, but no longer. Dito Do you use the helicopter as a Vulture or as a Valkyrie? -Magg

Not really sure what I would use it now, it was originally knocked up from a plastic land speeder with metal missile pods and it was used under 3rd edition with the Vehicle Design Rules from chapter approved, it hasn't been on the field of battle for a while now.

Do you have a Warrior Woman mini from the Last Chancer's set anywhere in your collection? I ask because I see you have Schaeffer, so I assume you have the rest of the set, and she's an awesome mini with the old school Cadian helmet. I used one to convert up an objective marker. Looking through this thread has really made me nostalgic. I miss the old metal Cadians so much, and my dislike for the new plastic ones has been renewed... I really wish they hadn't discontinued the metal ones. Oh yeah, my old metal Cadian collecting friend whom I mentioned earlier looked at the thread and was very impressed!

Great looking force. I particularly like basilisks, camo and all. You can really imagine the whole army coming out of a hedgeline in northern Europe.

Perhaps you could just use the chopper as an allied Landspeeder?
Your collections and painting is just awesome. Very good work.

Just finished weathering three recently built vehicles. These vehicles were dry brushed, splattered with a dark brown and then dusted with weathering powders. For the next vehicle project I intend to also do paint chips. Mainticore Mike One One, first of the battery. Chimera APC Leman Russ Conquerer fast tank. She is in my bits box however I think that I may of plundered her lasgun for something else! Thank you, that was my intention for the whole army, the look is to be a veteran battle group that has been on campaign for some time. Its worth a try, I don't normally take allies as a rule (well not since 2nd edition days in my youth), this thread provoked me to think that it could serve well as a Vendetta gunship minus the troop carrying capacity.

I wonder how many Guardsmen it would take for GW to reverse their range? So the Guard would still be multipart plastic kits, but with a design similar to the old models. All in all, I think it would be far quicker and more satisfying to hold the head of GW to ransom using a sawn off shotgun (sawn down to pistol size - "Squirrel Gun" I think the term is) and demand the old Cadians are reintroduced... But a far more legal way would probably be to just get everyone you/we know, including the forumites here and elsewhere, to send in letters requesting they be put into the "classics" range...

I think there is Bob Hope and no Hope and one of those is dead, of getting metal Cadians into the classic range. Here is the last twenty four hours output of painting. First off is a nifty technique for weathering tank track picked up from an on line tutorial. After using weathering powders, dry brush the track in bolt gun metal to bring out the track detail. Thinking of doing this on all the tracks in the collection. Next up are some characters that had been on the lead pile waiting their turn. Yes more Commissars..... Ratling snipers, had these knocking around for a while and haven't used them since 1999! I prefer these sculpts over the new ones. And finally a trial Kaskrin, hopefully I should have the whole squad done today. I chose to do two camo schemes to pick these soldiers out. The first is the standard camo used throughout with the armour picked out in splinter pattern
