Warning: this applies only to the Imperial Armour 8 Elysean army, not teh IG codex.
The drop troops have little access to heavy firebesides Vendettas and Sentinels. Do you think it would be worthwhile to pay the points to upgrade the multilaser to a lascannon, and get better odds at AV penetration when needed?
According to my calculations, the Lascannon is better to suppress AV12 (19% vs. 8% for the multilaser), both weapons are on par when shooting at AV 11 (24% vs. 23%). The multilaser gets slightly better odds against AV 10 (35% vs. 30%).
This doesn't assign the Valkyrie to AT duties, it's just an additional one to put more pressure on the opponent.

In my experience the 3 shots from the Multi laser gets the job done more reliable than a single BS 3 lascannon.. Normally i would put the points into vendettas if you wanted lascannons..
Just my 5 cents..

I agree with you about the Vendetta/Valkyrie selection.
My point is: once you have filled your 3 Fast Attack slots with Vendettas, how can you add additional suppression AT (i.e. long-ranged, shooting to stun or better)? Remember this discussion is within the context of IA:8, meaning - no autocanon in platoon infantry squads - valkyrie as a dedicated transport
Other FoC slots don't provide suppression fire unless you are prepared to pay the 135 points fees of a platoon just to get access to Missile Launcher heavy weapon teams. Since Valkyries are dedicated transports, they provide multiple platforms for lascannons, and can get those extra pot shots on the initial turns. Once the opponent is demeched, you will of course use the rocket pods first and foremost.
Is this a waste of points in your opinion?
