My fellow Lord Generals Millitant, the Emperor's realm is beset by an alliance of Xenos most foul. They have amassed 1,500 points of their most lethal and terrifying assets, and their aim can be nothing less than the most dastardly of shenanigans! It is our sacred duty to purge this Xenos filth in the Emperor's name! The Logis Strategos has provided us with the following details of their force composition: - The Undying (Vargard Obyron) 160
- The Crawling Doom (Triarch Stalker): twin-linked heavy gauss cannon. 165
- The Unwavering (5 Necron Immortals) 85
- The Decimated (8 Necron Warriors) 104
- The Metal Tide (8 Canoptek Scarabs) 120
- The Menders (3 Canoptek Spyders) 150
- The Voice Of The Necrontyr (Annihilation Barge): gauss cannon. 90
- Shas'o Shadowslip (Commander): missile pod; twin-linked plasma rifle; shield generator. 145
- The Colossus (XV104 Riptide): Riptide stimulant injector; advanced targeting system; ion accelerator; twin-linked plasma rifle. 223
- The Kindred (10 Kroot): 9× sniper rounds. 69
- The Triad (4 Pathfinders): 3× rail rifle. 89
- Aegis Defence Lines: gun emplacement with quad-gun. 100
1,500 points How shall the Emperor's Hammer counter this? TL/DR: help me whomp my buddy's 1500 pt list. This is the same Necron player who tabled me last week and a good friend of mine. I'm thinking a force of foot-guard with an allied Armored Battle Company, as the Beast Hunter shells do wonderful things to monstrous creatures, and the thought of 1-shotting a riptide makes me ;D Thoughts?

1. Show up with beautiful woman. 2. Apologize for missing the start time, but you have a woman. 3. Reschedule, leaving him with little plastic men while you have a woman. 4. 5. Profit! That's how you crush him. Also, hellhounds for the tau and LRBTs for the 'crons. I'd also keep some meltaguns handy in case they get close, or if you want to get close. ACs and MLs in cover are your friend.

Hellhounds, LRBT, Manticores, missile launchers and lascannons. Hellhounds and any other template weapon make quick work of scarabs. Kill them first and spiders become useless. Lascannons, missile launchers, LRBT, and manticore are death to suits. Pathfinders and kroot are very squishy. Flamers and similar weapons are very handy against them. Watch out for gauss, it will glance your tanks to death.

Kill the scarabs. Kill them until they are dead. Screen your tanks with flamers. They're nigh-useless against infantry; I had a squad of five ratlings beat them up in melee. So putting your tanks behind your blob (which you should probably be doing anyway) is a good bet.

I played against Necrons for the first time last weekend, my friend picked up an army on the cheap on Craigslist. Three scarab bases munched my Leman Russ, and then, having no other armored targets left, decided to assault my Ratlings. The Ratlings won combat by one wound, as the scarabs couldn't seem to land a hit on the shifty little buggers. At this point, I conceded the game, as I had hardly any units left on the table. But I do wish I had continued that combat to see how it resolved in the end.

Fortunately, he has a wife who is very supportive of his hobby, mostly because the odds of meeting an attractive woman in a GW are 1 in one sextillion, but I digress. The Departamento Munitorium has pooled the following resources from neighboring sectors based on current battle-ready assets in order to combat the Xenos threat: "Galt's Grunts" - Colonel Galt's entourage - Company Command Squad, 4x Sniper Rifles, Aegis, Quad gun = 170
- Veteran Squad "Pain Train" - 3x plasma guns, Chimera "Boxcar" (multilaser + heavy flamer) = 170
- Guardsman Marbo
- Platoon Command Squad, 4x flamers = 50
- Infantry Squad, Flamer = 55
- Infantry Squad, Flamer = 55
- Heavy Weapon Squad, 3x Autocannons = 75
- Heavy Weapon Squad, 3x Lascannons = 105
- Vendetta Gunship "Touchdown", Veteran Squad "Extra Point", 3x melta guns = 230
Allied Armored Battle Group - Company Command Tank "Potshot", Vanquisher Pattern, Hull Lascannon, Coaxial Stubber, beast hunter shells = 205
- Leman Russ "MEQ Muncher", Hull Heavy Bolter = 150
- Leman Russ Exterminator "Dice Demon", Hull Heavy Bolter, Heavy Bolter Sponsons = 170
Total = 1500 Plan is to hide the Lemans and the CCS behind the Aegis line and surround the tanks with a human wall made of the infantry platoon. Their flamers should keep any scarabs that survive the first turn away. Thoughts?

Why the snipers and quad gun? Wouldn't plasma guns be more effective?

Why the snipers and quad gun? Wouldn't plasma guns be more effective? Because Uncle Galt has been hitting the bottle too hard and forgot that the quad gun has to shoot at the same target as the squad. OK, so forget the sniper rifles (this is why I love you IGMB), that leaves 20 points to play with. Thoughts?

Either a lascannon or autocannons and two grenade launchers might do well with the quad gun.

Camo cloaks for your command squad. Keep them alive so they can keep giving orders
I once fought a battle against the Tau a few years ago. I knew I needed to outmanuever them.
They're crap in close combat, right? Everyone knows that! So I made a vox call to my buddy Colonel Schaffer and borrowed some of his boys
Penal Legionnaires
They can outflank. So you just outflank and either charge or shoot the living urine out of the Tau from up close and scramble for cover. Assault them when you can. Even if they don't take out a Tau squad, the Tau now have to either focus on your grunts, or focus on those prison troops. If they choose one, the other might kill them, or advance close enough to become a serious threat.
The key to beating Tau is to outmanuever them, stay in cover, and assault them. Their basic troops are expensive and there aren't a whole lot of them. Make them divide their attention between shooting your main line and shooting at some other form of attacker.
If you dont' feel comfortable using penal troops (and I don't blame you, they're scum), run a small Al'Rahem platoon (obviously for fluff reasons, rename him something else). Equip them with as many flamers and heavy flamers as you can muster. Then come in from the side and barrel into them like a hammer to the side of the head. You'll knock out an entire fire warrior sqaud at the very least.
Flamers and Hvy Flamers are also great against scarab swarms, and can take them out as well.
Alternatively, if his Tau go up the middle and his flanks are guarded by those 'crons, you can tie up a squad of necron warriors and maybe get a good hit on them, allowing you to focus your attention elsewhere
