Hey you guys! I'm a dedicated Guard player getting back into the hobby. I'm rebuilding/converting/painting my models to have the feel of a lightly armored Reconnaissance Company. I'll update this page periodically as I finish more of my army. Pictured below is the first of two Chimeras converted to have an open-topped feel. My inspiration stems from the humvees used by the Recon Marines from the HBO mini-series Generation Kill. I wanted the turret to look more like the standing 50 cals and Mk19s. Let me know what you think, more pictures to come! PS: I will edit these pictures to be smaller

I kinda dig this, it's definitely a different variant than what I've seen before. Looking forward to some paint.

Did you make those ladders? If so, how?
Looks fantastic all over

Looking great! I saw many conversions of Chimeras but this one is the most unique off all. Keep up the great work!

I personally really don't like the lack of power cables and suchlike in the multi laser turret. Please say you'll be adding that sort of thing in later? That said, I do assume this is a Work in Progress picture, hence why it looks unfinished. on a positive note, I can agree that the idea is pretty damn cool. the alt design of the Chimera is very unique, though I can't say it feels realistic (as far as you can get in 40k) Certainly look forward to more stuff later on

Thank you guys for all the positive feedback! I've got some more pictures for you! These guys have been painted at a "paint-to-play" standard and with non-metallic metal. Pictured below is a squad of lightly converted veteran guardsmen, my Grey Knight Terminator allies, and my Commissar/stand-in-Inquisitor ally. Veteran Squad Individual Guardsmen Grey Knight Terminators Inquisitor/Commissar Let me know what you think

I like the addition of the night vision and goggles to the troops. And like was said about the Chimera, I like it, though it needs either some power cables running down to the mount or batteries attached.

A quick shot showing some upgrades -- I just converted the 10 or so veterans with lasguns to hold AK-type weapons using Maxmini bits. That's a good note from you guys about the turret gun looking a bit sparse. I have since added a battery, a targeting display, and electrical lines. I added rivets, rope, and a backup firearm to the inner-bulkhead of the Chimera. Here are a couple of the AK-toting Guardsmen:

A little hint with painting. If you thin out your paint with some water before you apply to the figure, you will see a huge difference in how it applies. I just noticed some of your paint looks thick in some spots. Diggin the AK's

Nice! I like how you've mixed some 'Chan bits in with the standard Cadian bits--I've done mashups of the two to make my "carapace vets" for my 'Chans...
Oh yeah, and with the Chimera, I agree that you could easily count it as a Salamander--swap out the multi-laser for an autocannon and you've got the Scout, or replace if with another heavy flamer and you've got the Command variant.
The NMM looks quite nice too--did you also use the technique on the Commissar's powerfist?

Adkenpachi I did not build those ladders -- I got them at my local art store in the (somewhat limited) hobby section @kriegeirk That's a good call on the thinning of the paints. Reflecting on all of my models at once, it's pretty clear that they turn out chunky. I'll experiment with adding more water. Any tips? @trooper One-Nine-Seven-Four Thank you for the complement on the NNM. I did also use that technique on the Commissar's powerfist. Thanks again for the support y'all!

I love the chimera. So much I may steal ideas from it, apologies.
I like the idea of the gun being manned, it just reminds me of Rambo in his latest film

I usually keep two pots of water by me one for cleaning my brushes out, the other for dipping my brush in before I select a paint. I usually dip my brush in water then select the color I need and spread it out a little on my palette. Usually only a drop of water is plenty for my liking, although it is a preference type of thing. I'd suggest taking some figures you don't necessarily care about and just play around until you find a consistency you're happy with. It's a lot of trial and error, but worth it in the end result.

I really like your guardsmans! May steal some ideas in the future... Maybe even sooner than I thought... You've inspired me to work on my soldiers too!

I think it would look pretty cool, considering your concepts. Not sure of anyone who has done this conversion though.

I could have sworn that someone on here has used that conversion kit, but it was quite some time ago...

I think you're right, Trooper. The only person I can think of whose army it fits into is Ashot's, but I don't believe it was him. For some reason Egon keeps popping into my head, but I don't think that's correct either.
