I've been looking around the internets for a few days now but i can't find anything to my liking so i'm gonna bore you guys with it.
i want to make a assault-infantry squad armed with shields and something big and heavy for hitting, just like the shields and hammers om the SM. However, those shields and hammers are way too bulky. the hammers may be cut down to fit but the shields are too big for a guardsman to charge a battlefield with.
all i was able to find for shields where riot shields and they are meant to hold a line, not charge the enemy so i don't want those. for the weapon i can always use the chainsword to poweraxe conversion i found some threads below but that still leaves the shields.. any idea's?
don't bother with game legal issues since they are for display and building fun only.
i tried the usual sites for spare parts but to no avail...

it's not a functional design and just follows the rule of cool. there basicly are a "3" methods of getting a shield in 1) buckler/targe style smallshields, perfect for dueling purposes etc 2)than there's the medium sized shields, think of all the shapes you want, it's fictional after all.. 3) go big of go home, the sheer size of this shield means it will cover most of the user his body. think roman shields, (some) riot shields etc. in my opinion these make the most sense for imperial guard as well since they are not dedicated close combat troops, and if they already had shields most likely these would be riot gear to control well, riots.. here's a fine space marine example of how a riot shield can look nice!

Thanks for the interaction but i was in fact going for the "cool" shields. Of course riot shields are great for holding your own against a mob or charging into eastern Europe people but i just don't like them. The buckler is great for dueling but not for big-scale warfare so i think i will in fact go for the middle option, witch is like the one i used as an example.
so i hope someone can tell me what they are called and / or how i can buy similar shields because my attempts at GS-duplicating them have failed to meet expectations so far..

games workshop calls those shield a combat shield. perhaps the fantasy empire range can give you what you need?

Have you considered modeling your Guardsmen holding up the corpses of other Guardsmen as the Stormshields, and severed limbs from other Guardsmen as the Thunderhammers?

No way! I can't believe the Junkers are plastic now. I bought some of the dinosaur cavalry models back when Scotia Grendel were still called I-Kore.

Chem, I don't think Scotia Grendal is really the owner of the models, beyond the rights to produce them. Orat the very least sell on OOP models. That said, I am considering picking up the Void 1.1 ruleook, as its only £5 Guardsmen corpses could work as shields, but I highly doubt they'd be comparable to Storm Shields. Severed Limbs as Thunder Hammers, however? Well now you're just being silly

Well now you're just being silly Maybe work some wirey and powerpacky bits into the dead 'uns & parts to make them look like they've been electrified for energy field generation/shieldy-type stuff? It'd be Grim-Dark/Derp.
